Yep. I’m trying Lumino therapy this year. I was prescribed special glasses which I have to wear for 20_30 minutes every morning.

This is a well-known phenomena. Vitamin D3 supplement is recommended and may help.

So far the light therapy seems less effective. I have a bit more energy in the morning, but it doesn’t seem to do anything for my mood.

Yes, every fall and winter. And every time it would start with me thinking "aaaw, I'm such a poor thing" (LOL) then after a week or so I'd wonder "hang on, why am I so down, all is going well". Just to realize I was lacking light.
A few years ago I got a Philips day-light. Worked well, I'd just turn it on in the mornings while zooming about, getting ready to leave. But I still had to go through the phase described above before actually put it to use.
Last summer my doctor detected a bad lack of vitamin D3 during a general blood-test. I take some ever since and this autumn I had absolutely no symptoms although I did notice the grey-in-grey season having started. But this year it was simply "eeeek, how unpleasant"-reaction.

Every three weeks, I take the entire 100 I.E. bottle at once. It is alcohol based, so I make sure to consume it at work on Friday mornings. It gives me a nice little permitted buzz and I call it my Happy D3 Friday!
We also have a SAD lamp at home, it doesn't do much for me...but it helps my husband.

What helps me is the alarm clock from Philips. The light starts coming up slowly half an hour before wake up time and you then get bird song instead of the beep beep beep. Better start of the day.
+1 on the day light lamp

I decided on taking it once a week - my doctor also told me some people just gulp down a whole bottle at once which is okay. | Quote: | | | | | What helps me is the alarm clock from Philips. +1 on the day light lamp | | | | | I got that one as well. Once after cleaning it went off untimely - I was kind of worried about what was going on amongst the birds outside, until I realized it wasn't them.

I wonder if this is more prevalent for those living in the plains near lakes, which are often under the 'sea of cloud'. Woke up to first real snow today, but it is brilliant sunshine now, so it helps. I think I would get really down if I lived under fog for months.

November has got to be the worst month as far as this goes. It probably explains the increased consumption of alcohol in this period

My winter blues therapy relies on catching fresh air everyday by making short walks from parking lot to the office and during lunch breaks add another short walks to canteen and back.
Secondly, regular exercising on daily basis i.e. free weights, stretching bands, cardio, cycling, stretching exercises on mat and indoor tennis (haven’t touched racket yet).
Music when driving to work and back over 110km each day.
Checking social media and funnies, EF included, for a good dose of laughter.
Giving plenty of love to your spouse (yeah sex helps to combat stress) and interacting with people is on the top of my weekly priority list.
Drinking dry red wine e.g. few glasses a week is one of my favourite methods to fend off depression.
Try not to be SAD during those murky, gloomy days.

I take one a day high strength St John's Wort for 30 days to sort myself out when SAD kicks in for me. I also found out I was deficient in D3 a couple of years ago and find taking that really helps as well.

I have a lamp I use for 15 minutes in the AM if I need it, and I take vit D3. Haven‘t needed the lamp so far this autumn.
All the advice to not be SAD is cute and clever. The problem is that if you can‘t motivate yourself in the first place, all that perkiness makes you feel even more shitty.

I thought it might be good to revive this thread. As most of us are home during this period. Also after 10 years of no seasons, I am finding it especially hard with the shorter days (and winter in general...) I try to exercise outside whenever there is any bit of sunshine but these past few days have been tough...
please give all your advice and tips |

omtastat has been permanently banned, unfortunately. I hope he's doing ok in this stressful time period.
It gets dark but we have candles and chains of mini-lights hung at places to make it feel warm and cozy. I also sometimes put youtube fake fireplace with crackling fire on our living room TV and jazz. Baking to make home smell festive. Little details like this help, going for a run, taking cold showers and Vit D. Walking a lot in sunshine.
