Manor is one Swiss store often significant price differences for Black Friday.

I think most places do this. Not sure of the rules but I think it's something along the lines of having to advertise the item at the higher price for at least 14 days before you drop it.

You just have to be savvy to sort the wheat from the chaff...

Helps if you have had your eye on something for a while **whistles innocently**

This looks rather like the opposite... the item was 129.00 all along, then "specially offered"at 129.00, down from 179.00 (or any other fantasy price you care to mention) -- possibly for one day only, who knows?

Manor has its profit margin.
You have a good feeling about the deal.
That's called a win-win.

Even better for all concerned if it were a special offer of 179.00, amended from 129.00, then. Warm fuzzies all round.

They have to advertise it at the higher price for a set amount of time so probably showed it at CHF 179 for a couple of weeks before putting the original price of CHF 129 on a shiny new sale label as a MASSIVE reduction (tongue in cheek).

Not wanting to labour the point or anything, but there's no price label at 179.00, save the one that already indicates the discounted price. There's only the original price of 129.00, and the superduper discount overlay label showing the non-existent "original" price. Anyway, I'll leave it at that, before the joke (if that's what it is) wears too thin.

This is what prompted me to post the question. I have seen Migro Electronics doing this almost always.

people being so precious with "No Black Friday in Switzerland!" are cut from the same cloth with people being offended how Christmas is about the fat guy in the red suit and presents (i.e. outraged for the sake of outrage)

Yes, there is Black Friday in Switzerland. Galaxus has some good (and some very good) deals, and they are -usually- very good on honoring their delivery commitments even in times of high stress.

Two completely different topics. I don't think anyone is offended, it's just that 'Black Friday' is mainly a gimmick in Switzerland where normally priced or slightly discounted items are being presented as amazing deals.

I am sure there is the occasional fantastic deal out there but this seems to be the exception rather than the rule.

At the end of the day it's up to each person to buy or not, but I certainly wouldn't sit around waiting for Black Friday for a great offer because I have rarely seen anything that wouldn't be similarly priced at other moments of the year.

It's a 'gimmick' anywhere in the world. True, there are fewer extraordinary deals like you would see in the US, but you can get genuine discounts on items of 30-40%, which is significant. As mentioned, Digitec/Galaxus does this quite well and transparent. I bought an office chair from them for CHF 249.- down from CHF 399.-. Not insane, but not negligible.

Re: Which stores offer real Black Friday deals?

As it happens, we were out collecting a second-hand bed frame yesterday, so visited a couple of 'Black Friday' sales on the way back. We're just kitting out a second holiday rental apartment in our house so there's a few things we still need(ed), so have been picking up special offers and second-hand stuff as we can, like the chf30 duvets and a chf59 12-place cutlery set that we got at an new Lipo grand opening event last weekend.

Picked up a Krups Nespresso machine for chf53 (same as one we bought last year for 89, and still with the chf100 of free capsules) and some decent quality mattresses at genuine low prices, like 299 (allegedly reduced from 799) for the 160cm wide one, 199 each for 2 90s. All at Conforama, not a shop we often use. Very happy to have coincidentally hit the right day to shop.

Re: Which stores offer real Black Friday deals?

I dont get all the concern / fuss about retailers apparently ripping people off with black Friday 'deals'.

With the exception of e.g. clothing, you can almost always check the price history of any type of item online within a minute, in order to judge whether its a genuine deal (https://www.toppreise.ch/en --> price history chart).
