I do feel that a large part of the problem is the pedestrians, and the public transport system that supports them.

The answer is clear - get rid of all the trams and buses, the pedestrian crossings and the pavements (sidewalks) and ban pedestrians and cyclists from using the roads. Fairly sure that will remove much of the traffic problems, but if not we can tarmac over the railways as well to increase road capacity.
Bahnhoffstrasse could be two lanes up and two lanes down

I didn't think you'd want to exit the motorway anywhere near Zürich and just continue on past?
No, I need to visit friends in Oerlikon and Zollikerberg.

There's nothing past Zurich in any case.

So people have to make detours. If they dont like it then they can take public transport or stay at home

Years ago they decided to get rid of cars from Langstrasse. And still the cars roll there. These lazy sleepy overpaid Zurich politicians!

Shit the alternative routes. Simply ban the cars fron the centre. Its their problem to look for alternative routes or use public transport!
Who is "they". The ones who demand banning cars, no doubt.

I was able to read it and it said: <<Ob die Juso-Initiative «Züri autofrei» ungültig oder gültig ist, wird das Bundesgericht entscheiden. Die Gegner akzeptieren das Urteil des Zürcher Verwaltungsgerichtes nicht, das die Volksinitiative für gültig erklärte, und ziehen ihn ans Bundesgericht weiter>>
So either Juso is fighting just for the sake of fighting or Tages Anzeiger does not bother to report correctly.

How about a car shuttle train.
From Dübendort (to keep it comfy for Ato) to Adliswil, for example. Would suit me fine too.

Obviously " they" refers to the car drivers

That's correct. "They" refers to the opponents of the iniative (trade associations).

The trade associations only care about their own pocket. They have no interest in living quality

The entire town carfree... (Besides cantonal and federal roads like Seestrasse for example)

Oh lol, how crazy one must be to think this stands even the smallest chance of winning.

You can stop dreaming of your Cobra Omtatsat, you would not be allowed to drive it even close to your home :P

It would need an exit near the water on the Gold Coast side to take away a decent bunch of traffic that now uses Qualbrucke.

Town could use a better connection between the two sides. Now one either uses Qualbrucke, or the closest things down is the boat in Horgen or the Bridge near Rapperswil both are not great options when living/being close to town.
Or connect the new road/tunnel to the 52 in Zumikon? Put a junction near Witikon and watch the traffic pile up? It might work. Might also just shift the traffic around a bit.

I'm not so sure you're right here. Some twenty years ago there was a similar initiative which got 38% yes-votes:
https://www.tagesanzeiger.ch/zuerich...story/20480147

Since then the city has moved markedly to the left and only a minority of the housholds owns a car these days. In my estimation the initiative stands a realistic chance of being approuved by the people of Zurich if the supreme court decides that it's valid.

Oh yeah it should connect to the 52, but also to the 17 to avoid kusnachtstrasse, limbergstrasse and such to completely pile up hours a day.

More curious how they would do such, the lake is damn deep.

If they would just do the main centre where the shopping and partying is the main thing to do for majority of people I could see them succeed. But all 91 Square kilometers of town? If they would carry my groceries 50 meters higher and prevent me losing 2,5 hours extra time needed a day to get my kid to daycare I could consider to give it a serious thought...

I would have to do Central-Hirschengraben-Zeltweg-Kreuzstrasse-Utoquai-Bellevue-General Guisan Quai-Wollishofen to get through town then.
Guess who won't vote for your idea.
(Thought I put it down for the voters living in those areas. We don't want them to start claiming they were not informed well enough ).

Where in the officials plans/proposals do you find that picture, since it makes no sense when put next to all the articles. Nor would it make sense with the court cases. Also a bunch of streets there are already blocked for cars.

Re: Ban cars from cental Zurich

Basically whats needed is the closure of the Rudolf-Brun bridge. That would put an end to all these rich kids in their rented Ferraris from turning the Sihlstrasse and Uraniastrasse into a raceway! And there is a lobby to make Sihlstrasse auto free so thats nothing new.
And of course Löwenstrasse should also be closed ( was also a lobby to do this ). It took 13 years to make 50 metre of Langstrasse auto free. So by the end of this century they might do a little more!
