It's Official: CH Gvt Tells Foreigners to Be Prompt

Just noticed this ....

Page 18, paragraph 2 of the current "Information for Newly Arrived Foreign Nationals" Booklet distributed by the Canton of Zurich Department of Justice and Home Affairs, Cantonal Integration Office, says:

"In Switzerland, great importance is placed on order and punctuality. .... Politeness and respect are qualities which Swiss hold dear. Rules and regulations are followed so that people can live successfully together"

So there you have it ..... All you Auslanders have been officially told .... Be Punctual.

..... so this means the current Swiss government has actually spent tax payer money to print and distribute booklets to tell newly incoming foreigners to behave themselves and be on time.

(....along with some other information)

Isn’t it more ‘information’ to inform newcomers what to expect rather than telling them to behave? That’s how I would interpret it.

What was in the rest of the leaflet?

EDIT: found it. It’s just info to help you orientate yourself.

Well first of all they did not tell you to be punctual, they just told you what to expect and second since we charge foreigners a little more in taxes, it covered.

Just an attempt to stop newcomers lashing out at innocent bystanders, when the 7.47h train is actually gone at 7.48h or Coop is truly closed at 20.00h.

Well, I had an appointment today at 3pm and I walked into the place while the churchbell rang 3. It's crazy, sooner or later it's in your system.

As someone who, historically, struggles with being on time, I actually like this facet of Switzerland. Makes me think and plan ahead more. When in Rome...

We had a Swiss-German couple over for dinner, I said come around 19h30.

They pulled into the driveway at 19h20, throwing my wife into a tizzy, and sat there. Doorbell rang at precisely 19h30.

That's standard procedure. It's happened to us loads of times.

It's a great way to confirm clocks and watches are set at the correct time.

Happened to me several times that I invited different people (who didn't previously know one another) for drinks or for dinner and they did precisely this. Nice thing is that I only needed to answer the doorbell once. The other thing was that they had used their time outside to already introduce themselves so it saved me the bother of having to do that too. Even if it all felt rather bizzarre.

Re: It's Official: CH Gvt Tells Foreigners to Be Prompt

It can be a bit of a pain though if everyone arrives at once - if people come in dribs and drabs you can ask them individually what they want to drink and mix them a decent drink.

I guess that's why it's white wine or prosecco here, you just couldn't make all those drinks in one go.

I guess the other 'benefit' or reason for all arriving at once is that no one will start drinking until everyone has arrived here (which of course is instantaneously) which makes it all perfect for the all-inclusive glass-chinking toast.

Re: It's Official: CH Gvt Tells Foreigners to Be Prompt

Crikey, I wish the Swiss people I know would behave themselves and neatly fit themselves into the nice stereotype package.

They normally swan in, help themselves to a drink, make sure I've got one in my hand, and get stuck into helping me finish making dinner cos I'm always way out on my timing...

The goverment of canton Zurich is the Swiss goverment

Perfect, yet an other moved from baroad Aargauer, BŁndner, or other Foreigner whcih thinks Zurich is the center of the universe That's exatly how we real, born and raised citizens of Zurich get this bad image as arrogant, grosskozig, and self-centic persons.

Re: It's Official: CH Gvt Tells Foreigners to Be Prompt

I had an appointment this morning in Campione to off-load the bike I brought back from AG Sunday evening (and, as it turned out, another two that another friend had brought back from Soave).

My Swiss friend was 20 minutes late (OK, he's half Italian)!
