Is there a Swiss online payment system similar to the Dutch iDeal?

iDeal is amazing and easy to use.

Here I have to use credit cards mostly. For example, to buy tickets via the SBB app. They accept visa, mastercard, and even american express, but not Sofort or any local alternative.

In Holland iDeal is accepted by all web shops. And the fee is only 10 cents.

Switzerland being the banking hub, I expected it to have a system like this.

You can buy ticktes online and pay per invoice or you can check in (via app on your mobile) and check out , (App Fairtiq, Easyride).

If you have a credit card what's the problem? Otherwise, look at Twint, it's basically a direct debit system linked to your bank account.

Many Swiss businesses also accept directly Postfinance, therefore there is no need for any intermediary. But if you really want to use one, Twint is getting some traction at national level, and in general is very straightforward; online and physical shops like Coop or Digitec support it.

It is not a consumer banking hub, so you will be disappointed.

Actually having read the description it sound rather backwards compared to using TWINT, which I have become a big fan of.

The last time I bought something on Ricardo, all I needed was the guy's telephone number to make the payment. And last time I bought something from Digiitec, all I did was scan the QR code.

Thanks, TWINT sounds great. I wish SBB supported it.

Also SBB is supposed to work with Apple Pay, but I don't have this option for some reason.

SBB does support it, the video I referenced show you how to link it out to their app and this like tells you more:

Re: Is there a Swiss online payment system similar to the Dutch iDeal?

Because Switzerland is big on banking the last thing they want is a start-up coming and eating their lunch when it comes to payments and their pricey Visa/Mastercards. See how Apple and Samsung's payment systems have been stalled.

Twint is the homegrown version, started by Postfinance and then merged with an online payment system from UBS and now supported by the main Swiss banks. It works, it's easy to use and there are various promotional offers, ie if you are going to sign up anyway try and exploit one of these to get something free in return.

iDEAL is not some random startup iDEAL is owned by the banks themselves. Also Twint is not to be compared with iDEAL, Twins itself is a payment platform where iDEAL is nothing more than a standard that redirects to ones own bank where the payments happen within the environment of the own bank and not inside iDEAL.

Switzerland is imho pretty late in standardising bank payments.

And to answer OP's question: Twint comes closest but there is no online thing in Switzerland as easy and widely accepted as iDEAL in the Netherlands.
