Who actually still has their kids in sports outside school? Just drove one of ours to his weekly training. Hockey, indoors in winter.
Here. Extra curricular sports are open here. And the ice-ring is open not only for kid ice hockey sports club but also for public, under 16. The parents waiting outside look really happy that their kids can still go.

My son attends private matrial arts classes as usual, but my daughter's unihockey classes were cancelled still in autumn (the same as other sport activities offered by town).

Re: Coronavirus

Kids here are so lucky and I am so glad for them. In the UK, our grandchildren have not had school for months and no sport, or any contact with their teams, clubs, friends, etc- just walking or cycling on the heath with mum and dad. I grieve for them. And no 3 generation skiing this year for half-term- they are really ****ed about that, and so are parents and grand-parents. They are to lucky so have plenty of space and all the tech they need a big garden and SSI on the doorstep - just can't imagine what it must be like to live in cramped conditions in a high-rise and without the necessary books or IT, or access to WiFi, etc

At least their schools (they go to separate ones and excellent private ones) have full lessons and stick to timetable for each subject, with normal breaks, on zoom (ot other platform).

Not any more, everything is closed... We had to buy a couple of exercise machines and install at home, the kids really miss their sports.

My kids want me to teach them flick flack and other gymnastics exercises. I'm really out of shape for that but I can still give them instructions. (can still do it but not properly)

I wish we had the space...Was thinking about hanging on our neighbor's door bar, though.

What’s flick flack?
I’m guessing it must be something I’ve done but called something else where I come from. Google didn’t help much as it came up with a type of shoe.

Back flip or handspring is what we called them.

I was never any good at those.

Wow, this looks difficult! For how long have you done gymnastics?

Yeah. They have a friend who's practicing gymnastics and got some ideas....I made the mistake to tell them that once I could do that too but it's obviously not the case now.
My generation was really into gymnastics, for them it's just another fun thing to try.

Not for long, leonie. I couldn't put up with the discipline and the sacrifices. Back home you didn't do it just for a hobby, if you weren't into it, like totally, professionally, you were kicked out. We played a lot with other kids from neighbourhood.

My daughter (12) has been skiing more this year than in previous seasons. She had 40+ days on snow before November and on average 3-4 days per week since then. Also 1-2 days of indoor training per week. The only difference this season has been the absence of races. Races for U16s have not been allowed and most likely won't happen this season.

My other daughter pretty much ended her swimming career due to COVID though. The trainings that were finally allowed became logistically too difficult to attend. She hasn't been swimming for months now.

This is tough.

Hugs to her. I hope she can launch herself into something new.

I thought you had an objection to private education, certainly to a charity who provided private education.
They are my grand-children, I do not make the decisions - and you know very well some of my nephews and nieces boarded at the same posh Private School you did. But you are right, I contribute to a Charity providing education for girls in some countries, and would never contribute to private education in the UK.

A bit far from the OP, no. Give it up Fatman, FFS.

Re: Coronavirus

So first shot efficacy is estimated at 80%, give or take. At least for severe outcome reductions. Don't ask me for studies now, there seem to be quite a lot of indications for this from what I hear in several reputable podcasts.

What are the chances that BAG changes their view and policy on this? Maximize number of people with at least some protection.

Get it done!

The vaccines have been approved by Swissmedic to be used in accordance with the protocols given by the manufacturer, BAG canít change that.
Vaud has already announced that it will have to stretch the gap between first and second dose to 6 weeks due to insufficient supply of the vaccine, I think thatís the most we can expect in Switzerland, theyíre not going to deviate from the approved protocols by more than that.

Drosten about British mutation and kids (automatic translation):
Well, they were having outbreaks in schools in the UK due to the new mutation, and that's why they decided to close the schools there. Coincidentally, the # of new daily cases in the UK finally began to drop just after schools were closed there on January 4th.
