Re: Coronavirus

Two 23-year-old Swiss entrepreneurs who became multi-millionaires by selling masks during the first wave of the pandemic have defended their actions while expressing regret for buying Ferraris with their earnings.
Swiss entrepreneurs Jascha Rudolphi and Luca Steffen became millionaires during the first wave of the pandemic by selling coronavirus protective masks.

According to Swiss media, each of the two made between 30 and 100 million francs (€27-92M, $33-111M) as a result.

Rudolphi and Steffen, both 23, imported the masks from abroad and sold them for between CHF8.50 (€7.80, $9.50) and CHF9.90 (€9.10, $11.06) through their company Emix.

Similar masks now cost less than one franc at most retailers.

REMINDER: What are the fines for breaking shutdown rules in Switzerland?

The entrepreneurs have come under fire for selling “unusable, perhaps even fake masks to the federal government for horrific sums” reports Swiss news outlet NZZ.

In one such example, Emix sold around 700,000 masks from Egyptian manufacturer Chemi Pharma Medical to the Swiss army which were later presumed to be fakes, as the Egyptian company does not manufacture masks.

The two entrepreneurs are facing potential criminal consequences for their actions. A charge of usury has been opened up by the Zurich public prosecutor's office, while a criminal investigation into Emix is ongoing.

I heard from one person from Germany that the authorities suddenly cancelled the start of the classroom studying for the school kids planned for today and announced it just on the weekend. I can imagine how "happy" the parents are to get the news so late.

God bless Swiss authorities! Even the Zurich ones, who will definitely announce the prolongations of masks requirement for the 10yo in the middle of the next week.

Still different per Bundesland, in some primary school kids from some classes do go to school. Which Bundesland has cancelled this?

The UK is well advanced in the vaccination program and are still talking about 7 more weeks before lifting lockdown restrictions, this is risking wasting the advantage gained from such an efficient vaccine rollout. Eventually people's patience and money will run out.

Not sure where you get this supposed 7 weeks from when Boris supposed to be announcing details of how and when the restrictions are being lifted later today. No dates have been mentioned yet.

UK chose to pay the open book price, so will pay slightly more due to delays but will get the vaccine first, it's not all about saving 10 cents a dose.
Where do you see the phrases "UK" or "10 cents" in my post?

He lives in RLP, though I'm not sure it the decision was valid for the whole region, city or school.

The criteria for the list is the following, so what's happening? Israel has vaccination rate above theoretical heard immunity and at the same time more new infections per 100K people in the last 2 weeks. So, what the vaccine is good for? Avoid infection or minimize consequences?
I don't think your data is correct. What I can find is that around 50% got at least one dose and much less got two (in the article from Feb 19 it says 32%). It's still to early to talk about herd immunity. And also the vaccinated persons might not be distributed evenly in population. I can assume that in secular population the percentage of vaccinated is much higher than in ultra-orthodox communities. So virus can still be distributed freely for some time in the groups and regions with lower vaccination rate.

Just a drive by post from me-

I am tired of EVERYTHING! I can't believe that people in Heidi land can't deal with a few months of LIGHT lockdown, crying about psychological damage etc

On the other hand I just can't separate real science from pseudo-science any more either. One thing that Corona situation made clear to me is that humans are even more selfish and dumb than I previously thought

I'm looking at the FT covid vaccine tracker: https://ig.ft.com/coronavirus-vaccin...tionAdjusted=1

Feb 21, more than 80% people vaccinated. Feb 1st, ~55%. I guess the infection is driven by the vaccination rate a few weeks ago, not today's one.

The squeaky wheel gets the grease. So, also consider that the people crying about psychological damage may be better positioning themselves for the eventual come back to normal. Not all crying is honest crying. Talking from experience, a bit of crying yields better work conditions. Posing as a tough guy doesn't pay

It's ok. We welcome all. Even drive-by posts. I think it still merrits answer. If you are tired of the whole deal (as everyone is), maybe it's time to get some life back.

Over the weekend, I saw terasses of closed bars and restos, packed with people who brought their own drinks and aperos. What's the point of closures when people are dying for some company and recharge. The lake shores are full of crowds everywhere. I am not saying that it is right - just that the measures might be unsustainable.

Re: Coronavirus

I think it is a normal and healthy feeling to be a bit down or depressed during these times when there is so much uncertainty and life is rather limited.

Besides those who have lost someone they love, their health or their business/way of life, I do not understand why people discuss "long term psychological damage". You hear this plenty from young adults who seem traumatized because they can't go out to the club ... this I do find to be a bit ridiculous and I want to roll my eyes. It is not like we are extremely limited in what we can do.
