But we don't have to wait so long, we have a smart and caring government who will realise it be better to run ahead of the Italian schedules instead of following the same schedule only to end up with the same numbers..

If only I'd believe this myself...

Speaking of parliament and responsibilities. EU had a corona meeting earlier today in an almost empty parliament and EU parliament will now close with no end-date given. So the EU just morally died and will not be involved in any of this...
Italy was ridiculed for the mismanagement of the crisis.

However, they were the first country in Europe. France, Germany, Spain and Switzerland should have learnt from Italy's mistakes. By repeating them they will seem even more ridicule and stupid.

I don’t think I know anyone who doesn’t watch tv at all.
How much and what sort of things they watch is variable.

Yes, starting from today back home too. Already suspended all the flights with Italy, China etc. Those who return form affected areas will be quarantined, symptoms or no symptoms. But we would be screwed if we don't take draconic measures. I hope they do. Lots of nurses, doctors etc emigrated in the past 10 years, and I think authorities must be painfully aware of that.

With Italy now on total lockdown I am wondering when the Federal govt and/or the govts of Ticino and Grison will decide to implement strict controls on the 70 odd thousand frontaliers in the region.
Now Austria has banned all travellers from Italy by plane, car & train.

What are the Swiss gonna do now?

Probably most of the nurses and general hospital staff in VD and GE are frontaliers ..
So double jeopardy, take a draconian measure like closing the border and we lose the the health care workers too

... and the bus drivers, shop workers .. screw it, most of Geneva employees..

Well you certainly don't want an infected frontalier in a care home!

True, hockey's the only sport I watch. And it gets dirty.

Speaking of sports, events over 100 people cancelled back home, so stadiums let only 100 spectators in. Like....ok. I don't think this is what the crisis gov team meant.

What would be the alternative? With whom can they replace all that staff?

Plus I don't what's the situation in France.

Anyone with young kids. Retired folk. Me, if having a vegging day, so pre-2014.

Folk may not have a TV but I don't believe the majority of the "oh, Gods, no, a TV? How gauche..." faction don't also stream Netflix etc on their laptop.

Plenty of beds, but the military does not have a huge stack of GP's standby, nor do they have huge stacks of the specific machines needed for this.
No, I am sure they don't. They could though surely provide some assistance. My son is in the medical corps. He has had no previous medical training prior to his service, but has been trained to insert an IV drip for example.

I was once hospitalised for flu which caused a respiratory complaint. I felt bloody awful, but actually didn't need more than monitoring and a drip as it was also a viral infection. I am assuming that some younger fitter people may also develop respiratory complications that won't develop into the need for ICU care.

Why can't they utilise the vast numbers of young men that are unfit for military duty but are in the civil defence? As far as I understand it they have far too many men in this category and many are simply put into reserve. There has also been a huge increase in men choosing to opt out of their military service in exchange for a 360 day civil duty, for example working in a care home. Currently the duty can belayed a bit/split timewise etc and I believe can also be undertaken overseas. Stop that and put these men into care homes etc.

Maybe I should have said screen rather than TV.

I think most people who say they never watch ‘TV’ in some form or another are deluding themselves.

Two days after the womens march for equality we have the suggestion to recall all young men and send them to deal with the new virus.
But in honesty the lads in the military are preumably in the least critical groups being both young and fit.

I watch the news first of all, and then some other stuff too at times. It's helpful. Plus the Swiss tv has a lot of interesting documentaries, I wouldn't find those things somewhere else. I don't watch anything trashy on tv, I have the internet/Netflix for that. lol
