In my little expat bubble everyone is flabbergasted by the ineptitude of the Swiss Government to react to this crisis, IDK if also the Swiss are realising how careless their government is.
I can only speak out of the experience with the people I've seen over the last days. Some are really not bothered or to concerned about their income and hope for not to strict measurements. But in general I sense a growing desire for stricter measurements like closing schools, daycare and universities and more limitations on travel to name some.

Well, that's precisely what I'v been saying for years now. It starts with nurses/doctors not wearing gloves etc. not adhering to WHO standards. The system set in place in the 60s and 70s is archaic at best. The Swiss have this false notion, that the system is infallible meanwhile never really having to withstand any test of time. You can clearly see a difference in how cases are handled. The U.S. closed its border to China long before Europe took such measures. They suspected a Corona case at a school and they disinfected the entire premise. I've just heard of a confirmed Corona case at a popular retailer, all employees were sent home but the public is not informed. Transparency, precaution and control makes a huge difference.

This is the first time in 8 years that I have heard the Swiss I work with openly bash the government and the way it is handling this event.

It feels honestly weird; usually its the bubble that does the complaining ...

Yes, they do.

I wear them when I work on my cars or bikes.

My GP wanted to shake my hand yesterday. I refused and said WHO and BAG don’t recommend it. He looked at me like at an idiot. I did the same.

And yes, he was not wearing gloves.

why would a doctor wear gloves to speak to you- surely s/he will wear gloves if he examines you (but not if simply taking blood pressure or listening to chest with stetoscope)...

A friend from the US has just told me he cancelled his trip to Switzerland supposed to take place at the end of August. Sensible or plain daft?

The Presidential Proclamation says nothing about US citizens. It does not impose any quarantine on returning citizens. Not sure where this is coming from, if rumour or true, but it's not in the proclamation.
I doubt any major airline will be running flights to the US from Europe to cater for just a few US citizens.

Here is the official proclamation.

Czech Republic closes border for people from a lot of countries including Switzerland.

People wanting to travel from Switzerland to Norway must without exception spend two weeks in quarantine.

If we don't close the borders, the rest will.

Don't worry guys, they have it covered.

“The wave has now arrived,” added Daniel Koch. “Switzerland, however, acted in time” to contain the spread, he said. He added that the authorities were taking the situation very seriously and that the right decisions must now be made as quickly as possible.

At midday Thursday, the FOPH declared that there was no national emergency. Switzerland is still in a special situation.

Special situation, more commonly described as 'caught in the headlights'.

Sorry, that comment you quoted (directly below) was intended for those with a remaining sense of humor including sardonic sarcasm (to coin a phrase)

.... however, having lived and worked in China for many years off & on, they do drink, sometimes heavily (for them), are extremely social and can in fact get fairly "wild" .... plus their predilection for driving while having poor uncorrected vision on the wrong side of highways with small vehicles, rickshaws and bikes is in my mind no less than "crazy" if not outright evil: one time outside one large rural factory complex, I had to evade a fast bus by knocking over and seriously bending a section of a luckily soft wooden fence as the bus grazed the rest of the fence while going on the wrong side of the road where I was walking on the foot-traveled edge.

Being a nice sort at the time -- and loving the Chinese folk in general (would stay there if I looked Chinese and not a "Gweilo" [(English) White Devil, a well-earned term from centuries past]) -- I was simply thankful for the weak fence and for growing up in NYC where I learned that everyone there was out to kill me or anyone; i.e., not necessarily a personal thing.

But in Switzerland people speed less than in for example Germany or the Netherlands, so they probably think they have more time to jump aside.

Ireland has about 40 cases and has closed all schools, knee jerk reaction or a timely intervention? Time will tell.
