You know that's not true. "they'd never be allowed to behave like that in the country I come from, they'd get the crap beaten out of them" or something similar is the instance I called you out for, and that's far from the only time.
Texas might be large but it isnít actually a country.

I’m sorry it is such a struggle for you to comprehend simple comments made ages ago, blow things completely out of proportion and have the inability to let things go. Must be a painful existence for you, take care.
Perfect, yet another personal attack combined with a totally professional psychological diagnosis.

Excellent job! I can't help but admire your rational arguing.

How likely is it, do you think, that it is for someone with asthma who has been fully vaxxed to become quite ill if they catch the Covid virus?
I've read that some inhaler for people with asthma even helps to prevent a severe illness in Corona patients.

Just use FFP2 masks in the shared places if it makes you feel safer. I wish you great holidays in Ticino!

Today's news, Olympic events in Tokyo will be held without any spectators.
They should have decided to delay the Tokyo Olympics long ago instead of this farce.

If the numbers continue to climb (and I expect they will), I can't decide if we should cancel our camping trip next month. It's for one week in Ticino, at a huge campground that will be completely full (the website is showing that it has no more spaces available for the dates we'll be there). We'll be staying in a tent, which means we'll have to use the shared bathrooms, showers, etc. and also will be sharing a crowded pool.

I've been fully vaccinated and my husband will be by then as well. But I know that doesn't mean that we can't still get the virus, and as far as I know, it also doesn't really 100% guarantee that I couldn't become very sick if I do get it (I'm high-risk due to asthma).

I'm curious what others here would do in my situation. I don't want any arguments about it or anything. It's just that I really can't make up my mind. I was really looking forward to this trip, as are my husband and our son. But a big part of my intuition is telling me that it's "better to be safe than sorry," I guess.

How likely is it, do you think, that it is for someone with asthma who has been fully vaxxed to become quite ill if they catch the Covid virus?
From everything I have read on this Forum from you, it is quite clear that you are sensible and responsible and, despite your asthma, I have the feeling you are in good health and take good care of yourself. As someone else commented, I am sure you will take precautions where necessary (FFP2 masks) and if I were you I would go and enjoy your holiday. If anything makes you uncomfortable (the pool perhaps) then use an alternative (a Lake).

I have also been very cautious over the last year and a half, but I am now beginning to feel that some risk will just have to be taken on board. I know your son (?) is still at school so obviously a child. A carefree holiday with his parents fundamentally in nature will probably do him (or her?) a great deal of good. Not to mention you and your husband. Go and have a fantastic time.

Thank you so much -- to both of you! That's an excellent suggestion, about using FFP2 masks.

That's interesting, about the inhaler... I wonder if it's a different inhaler from the one I already use. I'll do some Googling about it.

Thank you again!

lol UrsMax, what’s your problem my dear? I’ve never compared Switzerland to Texas - as if I ever could.

As I’ve said before, it would nice if some of the Swiss could understand that immigrants will never forget their experiences or origins & talking about them doesn’t mean we want to live elsewhere.
His problem is you're not MC, 'cause he only allows her to talk about her country. Like all the time.

Er, they did, it was supposed to be last year. Just like the Euro 2020 which ends 11.07.2021.

They should have cancelled it!

I'm not saying I don't agree, but cancel it with the idea of postponing it...when?

We have no idea how big 4 years in an athlete's life are. In some sports like gymnastics, if they can participate to the Olympics 2 times they've already achieved something, olympic medal or not.

Maybe it's for the best that way, at least they're still taking place.

Re: Coronavirus

The Olympics are no longer the pinnacle of sport, like they once were. Many sports, like gymnastics, are not scored on how well an athlete actually performed, but on a jury’s interpretation of how they did.

And the sponsors? Mcdo-do, Visa, Budweiser? Give me a break.

It’s no longer about the athletes. It’s all about Jingoism and the money.

They should permanently cancel them.

For anyone who might be interested, this book came out yesterday;

Itís about the development of the AZ vaccine by two of the main scientists involved at Oxford. Iím only a few chapters in, but itís quite interesting.

I donít think they should cancel them, but they should stop the bulldozing of residential homes to build stadiums, facilities etc that will never be used again. It is massively wasteful. There is a lot of environmental destruction with every Olympics.

and also will be sharing a crowded pool.
Your campsite has a lido, however if it's crowded, there are a few more scattered about. There is a big public lido in Ascona, and also a less busy public beach, just to the left of Porto Patriziale Ascona. You can park here for free, Sentiero Giro del Golf, 6612 Ascona, in the car park (fork left when you enter). There is a restaurant, Ristorante Vela Bianca, which is expensive for food, but standard drinks prices.
It's a good beach for swimming off and child safe. About a 15-20 min walk into Ascona.
If you drive into Ascona (can't remember if you've been) park here and save some hassle - Autosilo Comunale Ascona, Piazza Caglioni, 6612 Ascona, or even here and do the 5 min walk, Parcheggio Via Buonamano.

Other public swimming places that are very quiet during the week are at Vira (stone beach either side of the church, public toilets, restuarants, beautiful) and just along the road at Sub Gambarogno, Piazzogna, 6579 Gambarogno. No facilities, you're peeing in the lake there.

At the weekend everywhere is heaving though. In Ascona at night there were queues of people outside the restaurants every night of the week, so eating out at lunchtime is much more relaxed than in the eves.

Just be thankful you weren't camping there this week, by all accounts they've been washed out with torrential rain and hail.

Depends

In English we speak of things like the Black Country , the Fen Country , the West Country without there being the slightest implication of them being political countries .

Or even particularly large.
