"France introduces mandatory vaccination for health workers

France introduces compulsory corona vaccination for health and care workers. President Emmanuel Macron justified this in a televised address on Monday with the rapid spread of the delta variant of the corona virus. All employees of hospitals, old people's or nursing homes have to be vaccinated by September 15th at the latest, he says."

Isn’t he also saying that from August the Covid pass will be needed for shopping centres, cafes, hospitals etc. and long distance train journeys.
And from next week sometime it will be needed to go to cultural events, theme parks etc.
I was only half listening but I think that’s what he said.

Re: Coronavirus

I apologize if this is a stupid question, but it isn't really necessary to download the Covid app, is it? The reason I ask is because I have absolutely no space on my phone (thanks to my cheap husband getting me the cheapest plan possible ). So what I have now, for my Covid / vaccine certificate, is the .pdf file that they sent to me via SMS after my second dose (it has the code on it). So I have that pdf file downloaded and stored on my phone and also a paper print-out of it in my wallet.

Do you think it's a bad idea to not have the app installed as well?

Yes.

The app is quite small. Only 9 mb. I’m sure you can delete some apps you never use to free up 9mb.

Re: Coronavirus

What for? Isn't the QR code on paper the same as QR code in the App? In fact you are scanning the paper code to upload in into the App.

I think they are absolutely equal. Otherwise it would be a discrimination. The old people w/o smartphones also have a right to use Covid certificate to travel.

Thanks. I guess I had no idea how much space it requires, so I'll see if I can find a way to free up some space.

That's what I figured as well -- that there are probably a lot of elderly people without smartphones who wouldn't be able to use the app.

Pretty sure he didn’t say they would be compulsory for over 50s. Only compulsory for healthcare workers at present but he is stepping up the vaccination campaign in a bid to get as many people as possible vaccinated.
He said say that they would be compulsory (specifically the Covid pass so either vaccination or a PCR test) for cultural gatherings of 50 or more people.

They are turning the screws to make life much easier if you have had the vaccine.
Money is good incentive to get the anti-vaxxers on board, as it will be if say you need the certificate to eat inside at a restaurant, go to the cinema etc.

That’s what he said. They want to prioritise vaccination over testing.

One of the benefits of the app vs a printed hard copy is that it can be updated without user intervention. My digital certificate started out as being valid for 6 months. Since then it, magically, now shows 1 year.

The QR code gets updated so if you scan the original paper copy you also get the updated information so it doesn’t really make much difference.

My advice would be to take both printed and app if possible. I've had issues using online boarding pass apps at Basel and Manchester airports where the signal has been poor, and at Frankfurt when my phone battery just drained completely (no idea why).

I guess I always assumed that it was. Maybe it's just that I have a shitty phone.
