Looks like GE schools closing?

Can somebody confirm?

We've been asked to check our work emails every night. Nothing so far mentioning closure. But lots of kids were at home today.

Just got e-mail message from EasyJet saying I can re-book my flight to UK next week without a fee- should I decide not to travel next week. But how can I re-book without knowing what will happen in next few weeks or months?
My parents, having postponed their Japan trip, are flying EasyJet to Zurich tomorrow, back on Monday. To be fair, I have a load of Cuban Farmer cigars for them, so I think that is the main reason..... they’ll go off in 5 months

As someone else here mentioned, there is a press conference scheduled here tomorrow. Now that France has closed all schools, maybe CH is feeling more compelled to take such measures as well.
In regard to the above post, I think daycares should be closed. Those places are such breeding grounds for viruses. We had norovirus three times while our son was in daycare.
EPFL announced today that classes will be online from now until April 19 ( I know of confirmed cases at EPFL now).
Uni Bern also begins online classes from Monday.
ETH is all online from Monday until the semester end (confirmed cases as of today).
Meanwhile Fribourg is silent.
UNIL (which, mind you just got 3 highly suspected cases + maybe the director in one of the buildings today) is silent.
Geneva, I heard rumors last week

I feel the same way Odile... It's a "Catch 22" for me as well. If I can change my flight back to the US (a BIG if as I still cannot get through to American Airlines!), then I risk a 14 day quarantine and my kids who live in our house and work would probably also be subject to the quarantine.

And from what my US friends tell me, nursing homes in the US are starting to prohibit all visitation rights so even if I get through the 14 day quarantine and my Mom somehow is still living, chances are very high that I could not visit her. (I can't say I blame them!)

And what if my Mom passes while I am in quarantine? Then I could not attend her funeral - which would make me so angry and sad.

I just spoke to the US Consular office in Zurich and they also advised me that if I did choose to fly back, then there is no guarantee Switzerland would allow me back in. Switzerland is in the "eye" of the storm but the US are at least a month behind. And if things go pear shaped in the US, there is a very good chance that Switzerland will enact a similar ban to Trump for US visitors - Quid pro quo.

My sense is that I should stay put and hope and pray for the best for my Mom. I keep thinking about the military and how many of them lost loved ones while serving and they still did their duty... Many have been in my shoes but let's face it: the timing stinks for me! But it is what it is (one of my Mom's favorite adages...)

I doubt any major airline will be running flights to the US from Europe to cater for just a few US citizens.

Here is the official proclamation.
Swiss has cancelled all flights to the US, but... they will keep two flights a week. Only people who are allowed into Amerika and have the proper papers are allowed to board.

It all sucks majorly, but also try to take in mind what your mum would want you to do under these circumstances.

Re: Coronavirus

Belgium is also closing all recreational activities, all bars and restaurants in the country will close, also all stores that sell non-essential goods have to close in weekends.

Netherlands in the meanwhile: Prime-minister says that experts have told him that there is hardly any risk for spreading or illness amongst children so no need to close schools. Must be the same experts who advised them that one is only contagious when showing symptoms (which was governmental line till only a few days ago, even tho already proven wrong in January.)

Re: Coronavirus

terrifish- heart goes to you, what a difficult situation.

My trip to UK is just for fun- so of no consequence at all- but I so remember the days when I used to get a call from the neighbours or the care home and I would go to airport and get on next flight to be there for my mum. x

I just found out the same is true for the county i grew up in, in Pennsylvania, USA. All schools closed, non-essential stores also. They have 13 (reported) cases out of 850,000 population.

Why is CH dragging it's heels on this?

Respect for Italian government that they take this step.

Everything besides supermarkets, pharmacies and postal offices to be closed nationwide. Factories and transport sector also allowed to continue, but besides enjoying nature and work there is simply no reason anymore for people to leave their homes, bars, restaurants etc. all closed in the entire country.

(he should strike a deal with Netflix for nationwide free Netflix)

It's not exactly Netflix, but Pornhub has Italians....covered:

My mum had cancer and lived only like 1.000 km away, however I emigrated and build a life here including a family and my little boy. We've been there and talked a lot, asked each other everything we ever wanted to ask each other, and even tho we both loved to have done so much more together we both knew it was all good, but truth is also that it would take a to great tol on my family and also our financials to spend a lot of long times there so we did not do that.

I also had talks with my mum about ending life and we both agreed that if she made that choice that it was insane to await my arrival while she had to spend even more time in such condition, and we both new that my mum stubborn as she is would at a certain moment decide "this is it, I'm done and can't take any more" which was a morning where they failed to suppress the pain without keeping her totally down and out and where she heard that she also developed cancer in the bones while treatment for her lungs had been stopped as being no longer possible. And while the team stopped all treatment and brought her to a sleep without any machines simply to await her to collapse on her own, my sister called me that the final stage is started. When I arrived the next morning she had passed already and already was transported out of her home.

So yes I know what it is to not be there, but I also know that things can be done in ways where one is at peace with how it all went, and my sister is also fine with me not having been there.

You can't bent the unbendable, work with your family and find a way that works for you emotionally and in the meanwhile also look at all the great moments to keep the mood up. Best of wishes and hope you can work something out that works for you no matter what it is.
