Not sure why you were thanking me - unless you appreciate sarcasm.

Hospital numbers due to COVID are currently 2000 and are doubling every week.
Actually there are less than one hundred hospital patients due to covid ATM, thereof 25 in ICU (according to Tagesanzeiger (paywall)).

For once I thought you actually know what you're talking about. How could I.

Why would Tagesanzeiger publish the UK Covid numbers?

Since Tom was posting in response to a post about UK numbers I’m pretty sure he was referring to the UK with his 2000 figure.

The UK is of relatively wide interest as it is like looking a month or 6 weeks into the future from a continental European perspective, both in terms of delta and the vaccine rollout.

Certainly if I was a Swiss or EU state policymaker i is d be watching the uk like a Hawk.

Well maybe but those numbers that Urs Max quoted from the Tagesanzeiger were obviously not the uk numbers. and i doubt the average man in the street in Switzerland is interested in the finite details of uk numbers in any case.

Obviously the government and task force etc here will be following the uk progression very closely but I doubt very much that they rely on the daily newspapers for that info.

A valid point, I've overlooked that. The number had me automatically associate it with CH as the UK was already far higher a week ago.

I don't think there is any other way out unless you want to keep restrictions after bribing people to get vaccinations.
That will go down as well as pretending BREXIT vote was only advisory & should be ignored, the electorate won't be taken for fools.
Incentives, man, incentives. They could work. I don't think "bribing" is the right term here.
Though I can't understand why people need incentives to get this vaccine. I can't think of any other better stimulant than being able to do the things we took for granted - going to gym, concerts, theatre, travelling everywhere. During the first year of the pandemic I had to turn down two projects because OH was in a risk group (at least theoretically) and didn't want to take up more risks than we already did take simply by having kids in school. When the vaccine was available we immediately put ourselves in the queue of people who wanted to be vaccinated. I remember a few months ago the biggest fear was there weren't enough vaccines.
I don't get this reluctance against vaccination in this day, and I'm not talking about a specific country or group or whatever. People never cease to amaze me in the good way, but also never fail to disappoint me too.

It was a much nicer thread at the start, it’s become disgraceful now in my opinion.

It’s turned into one giant point scoring pissing contest.
Nah, it was mean and nasty from the beginning, I think. We just payed less attention back in the day. Notice the "Back in the day", it does look like this corona thing has occupied a lot of time in our lives, too much time...

I disagree.
It only started to get mean and nasty much later in. Sure, there were disagreements at the beginning but everybody remained civil and rational then.
That is certainly not the case anymore.

The forum seems to thrive on artificial conflicts between various members (after all most people here don't know each other IRL) on pretty much any given thread. I think the "feuds" keep it a tad lively, otherwise there wouldn't be any point for The Local to keep it "alive". Conflicts and feuds are the perfusions and ventilators of EF. It used to be used for (some sort of ) socialising and info on CH for the newcomers.
Hey, sorry for these comparisons, we're on the corona thread after all....

Re: Coronavirus

Nobody is safe

Health Secretary Sajid Javid says he has tested positive for Covid-19 and is suffering "very mild" symptoms.

Mr Javid, who said he had received both vaccine doses, took a lateral flow test on Saturday morning after feeling a "bit groggy" on Friday night and it came back positive.

Suspect this is what will happen to all of us sensible pro vac people. Eventually we catch the real thing but feel "a bit groggy" rather than get significantly ill. Then we get a more complete immunity.

Incidentally I note that UK cases are now plateauing.

Hogwash. Seems you didn’t read the article.

And the Louisiana State Health Officer on CNN is full of shit. Could not confirm that any of those that died had not been vaccinated.

Lastly, rather tasteless of you to link to a subreddit where people celebrate the misfortune of others.
absolutely

and the bottom line of the article is that somebody who was possibly/probably not vaxxed died of or with COVID.

I don't see what that is even supposed to prove, or what the person's opinions had to do with it.

Not so sure about that.
It was 30k on Monday, 40k Wednesday and 52k yesterday and 55k today, but I was under the impression that weekends the virus takes a break to catch it’s breath.
Maybe Wednesday we’ll have a better idea.

I beg to differ, I frequent far more polite places than this.

Not being as bad as somewhere else doesn’t equate to being good.

Exactly. I can generally ignore all the objectionable stuff, it’s rare that it bothers me to the point where I feel the need to participate.

Basing this on the symptom analyser which got the previous peaks spot on a couple of days in advance.
