A vaccine for Rubella has been around for over 50 years. It's been tested, it's safe, it's effective and it lasts a lifetime. Most pregnant women are now immune as it has been so widely used. To compare it to the Covid vaccines is nearly as absurd as Susie-Q's Facebook analogy!
It hadn’t been tested for 50 years when it was first introduced.
It also doesn’t last a lifetime.

It was novel at the time and kids were used as guinea pigs for vaccines back then just the same as for the Covid vaccine is now.

The rubella vaccine is given to both boys and girls despite it having no real benefit to the boys as the disease itself is fairly benign in kids. The only reason it’s given to boys is to protect the pregnant women, much the same logic as giving the Covid vaccine to kids to protect the old and vulnerable.

Not absurd as by your ‚logic‘ you should not vaccinate your kids with something they have no risk of getting or with only light symptoms.

And you did, if you have any kids, use the current vaccination program?

But there were 70K tests so there are plenty of people around and presumably, this number includes " People are leaving for holidays abroad" who mostly have to get tested before travelling.
True.

It will also include people who wanted to go on holiday abroad but couldn't because they tested positive.

So with people who test negative being allowed to leave, and people who test positive being told to go into quarantine, I would expect that, all other things being equal, that known cases per 100,000 of people in Kt ZH should see a sharp upturn.

The first Rubella vaccine was actually tested on children with mental disabilities locked away in a care home. The ethics of that you can make of what you will. Anyhow, these tests took place years before the vaccine was released for approval. Doesn't change the matter that the Rubella vaccine is effective at preventing transmission of the disease whereas this doesn't appear to be the case for the Covid vaccines.

My kids are vaccinated against most things. Though one should take each vaccine on its merits. They're not vaccinated against Chicken Pox for example, as it was one we decided wasn't necessary. The same "logic" applies to the Covid vaccines, at the moment, there is not good reason for kids to be vaccinated. Indeed this is the JCVI's view:

Quote:
"As evidence shows that COVID-19 rarely causes severe disease in children without underlying health conditions, at this time the JCVIs view is that the minimal health benefits of offering universal COVID-19 vaccination to children do not outweigh the potential risks.

Almost all children and young people are at very low risk from COVID-19. Symptoms, when seen, are typically mild and fewer than 30 children have died because of COVID-19 in the UK as of March 2021."
Source:
https://www.gov.uk/government/news/j...d-young-people

I don't get why so many people are obsessed with vaccinating kids against Covid, it's like an illness

Nobody had peanut allergies either, the population seems way more delicate 50 years on, is that really progress?
Are you truly stating that those with allergies are delicate?

No, we are not more delicate, we have learned how to combat diseases with vaccinations & treatments while many of your peers were most likely paralyzed with polio. However, plenty of society (particularly from your generation) is hell bent on destroying the environment for financial gain which gives us new diseases and many of the problems you see today.

I don't recall anybody drinking car battery acid either but it's necessary to write a warning now, presumable for people old enough to read rather than young children who might actually try. Looks like the level of common sense has decreased too over time.
Peanut allergies have existed for a very long time. It's just that it's more prevalent now due to a lack of exposure to peanuts at an early age (i.e. many parents not allowing their children to have peanuts or peanut-based foods or the kids simply not being exposed to them). Studies have shown that there is a much higher percentage of kids with peanut allergies when the kids hadn't been exposed to peanuts at an early age compared to those who were.

I think the warning labels on things like battery acid, laundry soap, etc. are more of a reflection of companies' fear of lawsuits than anything else.

So unwittingly we have made the population vulnerable.

Will continually washing our hands do long term damage? We were encouraged to eat food that had fallen on the floor when I was a kid.

I don't know you personally, so cannot criticize you individually (even though it seems you can easily call us allergic people "weak"). I'm glad to hear you don't own a new car, this Gen Xer and her husband don't own any cars or motorized transport.

But please don't piss on my leg and tell me it is raining, the majority of top executives from the most destructive industries today and in the recent past are boomers.

The problem with new machines especially Apple is they don't support USB 3 without an adapter. Not worth the hassle if you ask me.

Indeed. But EEs always knew it. Hence the weird looks I had from pediatricians here when I was feeding my 8mo old goulash and all the other nono things. And....cow milk! Gaaasp. Kids are happy when they eat what they aren't supposed to, play with what they aren't supposed and are dirty.

It is common sense to not trust the gazillion labels on products.

1st I am anti-apple (or it's just too expensive and not intuitive), but then - new machines are light and I got too many books in my bag as it is.

I'd recommend this, bit pricey but it'll cover most of your eye mac needs.
