"Why are you posting this bollocks? " That's what I'm thinking since you asked.
Whilst 'bollocks' it does have a huge ring of truth to it, which is no doubt why you are upset.

Yesterday it was suggested that the mods follow Facebook's example, I thought it was a bad idea at the time, but then thought I would try & see what people thought if I did.

Upset? How very presumptuous of you. I'm just pissing my sides at the stupidity of such a meme and why anyone one lower themselves to such a level as to repost it, but if it floats your boat, crack on. It will only reflect upon you.

As for your little emulation of Facebook experiment, please keep it to one of the other threads that you've turned into a sideshow. I'm sure you have plenty to choose from by now.

What are peoples' thoughts?
First time? Highly unlikely
Can I pass on covid when I show no symptoms - yes
Can I catch covid when I am immunised - yes

Not sure if it qualifies for bollocks but it sure ain't helpfull

Strictly speaking that's not what the meme said.

It said we can pass on a disease we don't have.

If we don't show any symptoms of a disease but merely carry the entity that causes it, do we have the disease?

That would be like saying, having the bacteria in your mouth that cause tooth decay is the same as having caries. Which means everybody has caries. Dentists might disagree.

The post claimed "we can pass on a disease we do not have" which is clearly bollocks.

"not having a disease" is somewhat different from "having a disease with no symptoms".

There are many other diseases that can be simultaneously asymptomatic and communicable so it is also bollocks to say this is the first time in human history.
Here are some examples.
Chlamydia
Hepatitis B (vaccine efficacy against infection 85.4%)
Hepatitis C3
HIV
Human papillomavirus (HPV) (vaccine efficacy against infection 93%)

If you infect other people then you have the disease; you need to look up the definition of asymptomatic.

Like HIV and aids.

The mistake in the meme is: It's not the first time.

They've said all along that the vaccines don't prevent people from getting Covid. The vaccines can only help prevent people from becoming extremely sick if and when they do get it.

there isn't a vaccine against AIDS, so its not a very good example.

I'm sure there is a better and more obvious example out there somewhere but I can't think of one right now.

It's a sort of multi-layer Schroedinger vaccine.

It prevents you getting COVID.

But if you do get COVID it prevents you getting very sick.

And if you do get very sick it prevents you being admitted to hospital.

And if you do get admitted to hospital (because you told the guy at the door you were not vaccinated) it prevents your death.

And if you die then at least you die in the street because they wouldn't admit you to hospital (unless you lied to the guy at the door).

And then it serves you right for being a liar.

Oh, and did I mention the statistics and probabilities? They're all in your favour in all of these cases.

The problem with those claims is that they're probably all simplifications by the media or someone else with an agenda.

The authorities and specialists OTOH are unlikely to use absolutes. The Swiss BAG (not available in English, x-lated by deepl) for instance says:
Quote:
The Covid 19 vaccination strategy is developed by the Federal Commission for Immunisation Issues (FCIA) and the Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH) and defines the vaccination goals (reduction of the burden of disease, in particular of severe courses of disease and deaths; safeguarding of health care, reduction of negative health, psychological, social and economic effects).

True, however if you have been vaccinated you can fly on planes throughout the EU without ever needing to get a test, so the assumption must be that either you won't get it or the risk of passing it on is low if you do.

General rule - if your body can generate natural immunity following infection a vaccine is likely to be successful. If it can't, it isn't.

I suppose that may change if that report (somewhere on the forum) about 75% of the people catching COVid after some event in America were already vaccinated.
