Apart from the foreign medical staff which is overworked and exhausted, hotels, construction sites etc etc are closing and are practically forcing foreign workers to leave Italy. The bad part is they can't go anywhere, borders are closed. It's tragic. Lots of people nobody is accountable for. EU? Ha.
This I thought about a week ago already.

So what do you suggest? Re-open the borders and allow even more spread? A main point is to reduce geographic spread.

The Italian Swiss border isn't closed, plenty still coming here to work every day!

Tom
Exactly. And those who live here and for some reason are off work (hotels, construction sites etc etc ) stay here. (Including GB expats who don't want to go to the office anymore - when it would be much more productive to send them to GB, go through the herd-immunisation system Boris suggests and return 100% productive ).

But Italy has it's own peculiar way of politics, specially with immigration.

However, nice and quiet at my Migros today (yes, I do know which time to pick for that but these days that's not really reliable, is it). You can buy anything your heart desires (although there may not be 60 packs of it but only 5 - still 4 more than I need) except: "Brennsprit" for the Fondue-burner and ice-cream cornets (parents needing to keep their children in a good mood?). I didn't want to buy the latter anyway and I still got enough "Brennsprit" to get my burner running. (I won't try to translate that as I could easily mention the wrong chemical.)

When I see NYT starts praising China I sense something big to happen....
Praising the Chinese. LOL.
If they'd stop the way they treat/bring up animals and the horrible way they stack them on open markets we might have had one or two health problems less in the past years.
Viruses are a big enough problem as they are, no need to specially breed them.

Shows the trajectory of coronavirus cases by canton, VD outpaces them all, even Tessin.

As far as i know, foreigner can return to their country. Will their country accept them back?

Yes (At least all countries of which I read in about their lock-up do)

But depending on the countries they might need to bring a test result or other medical papers and it is possible that no matter what they'll be put aside for 2 weeks. But at least they are home.

Note I'm not here to defend or argue with the NYT writer but,
I wonder what on earth did the Americans do to pigs and brought H1N1.
And you look exactly like one of those whom the NYT writer criticized. Again note here I'm not gonna defend or argue with him.

Yes of course they can. But they won't be forced to.

Will their country accept them?
Gee, what an idea. Yet I can only speak for Switzerland: A Swiss can return home any time in any shape. That is one of the basic rights, mentioned in the constitution (article 24/2).
Also mentioned here: Swiss citizens may return to Switzerland at any time, freely choose their place of residence and take up gainful employment.

This used to be printed in the passport but I didn't check if that's still so.

To be honest, it makes sense that many people would want to go "home" when seriously ill.

Well it's somehow more comforting to be shouted at by nurses and doctors with your own accent. Substantially less scary than some German accents anyways.

"If we reduce the infections as much as possible, our healthcare system will be able to handle cases much better, driving the fatality rate down. And, if we spread this over time, we will reach a point where the rest of society can be vaccinated, eliminating the risk altogether. So our goal is not to eliminate coronavirus contagions. Itís to postpone them."

Stay at home.

Re: Coronavirus

New measures in Austria:
- Only essential shops allowed to open (food, pharma, banks (!)
- Bars and restaurants to close at 15:00
- All flights to CH, Spain, France stopped
- St Andon and Ischgl under 14 days total quarantine
- Schools and ski areas closing has I think already been said

Separately, even the Premier League in England has been stopped so now you know it is the end of the world as we know it.
