It can get very boring for some people self-isolating - nevertheless there's always someone who will put their predicament
to song.

I really can not understand the need to push so hard against people struggling with something so big.
Its hard to understand why you feel this way. Nobody is pushing against Italians or Italian health care workers. They are merely highlighting the gravity of the situation. The Italian health care system is failing. Switzerland will be next. One by one the dominos will fall. Back when we were talking about how China's hospitals were overloaded - well nobody was pushing hard against the Chinese then either.

Because is hard to read fake news around when your feelings are with the ones involved in such a big disaster. Even harder when, instead of double check what I have posted, a few persons still push on the same biased stuff.
Same with the Chinese, but I'm not Chinese and I have no idea what going on there.

"Describing every available ventilator as “gold,” Macchini said the doctors and nurses working at his side are exhausted.
“I saw the tiredness on faces that didn’t know what it was despite the already exhausting workloads they had. I saw a solidarity of all of us who never failed to go to our internist colleagues to ask, ‘What can I do for you now?’
“Doctors who move beds and transfer patients, who administer therapies instead of nurses. Nurses with tears in their eyes because we can’t save everyone, and the vital parameters of several patients at the same time reveal an already marked destiny."

https://nypost.com/2020/03/10/italia...irus-thoughts/

Make of it what you will. I wasn't able to read whatever was in your other links because I am not fluent in Italian.
Problem is, I CAN READ THE ORIGINAL POST of doctor Daniele Macchini in Italian, and he says exactly what I said, even this part, translated for you thanks to deepl:

The intensive care unit becomes saturated, and where the intensive care unit ends there are more. Every ventilator becomes like gold: those in operating theatres that have now suspended their non-urgent activity become intensive care places that did not exist before.
I found it incredible, or at least I can speak for the HUMANITAS Gavazzeni (where I work) how we have managed to implement in such a short time such a finely tuned deployment and reorganization of resources to prepare for a disaster of such magnitude. And every reorganization of beds, departments, personnel, shifts and tasks is constantly reviewed day after day to try to give everything and even more.

...............
Yes, as a journalist you can cut and paste, you can add emphasis to what you prefer, however you can not change the original post still available, which confirm what I'm saying.

Well, if someone accidentally posts fake news, just tell them it's fake and provide evidence. You don't have to be aggressive about it or defensive. In the digital age, where "we are drowning in information but starving for wisdom," unfortunately, it's not always easy to decipher what is fake and what is true. And trust me, I'd much prefer the news that there is a lack of sufficient ventilators in Italy to NOT be true. I hope all your loved ones there remain safe.

Do you really think I need google to know how bad is back at home?
Bad is bad, fake is fake and doesn't help at all.
Read what I wrote and tell me if I have denied how bad is the situation.
Plus, I can confute the fake news, someone else can not confute what I'm saying without the need to use another fake, or biased, news.
Cui prodest?
The what we call "sensationsgeile" part of the population which grows constantly. There are always people where the problem as is (in this case Corona) is not bad enough. That's modern-day.

Don't get that worked up because it won't do you any good as well as not change this type of people/press.

Thanks for informing it was fake news and reported as such to the police. Leave it at that. The more factual and short you keep refuting the BS, the less fun for the nutters to produce, spread or even argue the lies.
Keep refuting, add a link and the rest of us will be grateful.

Same in VD. The schools closed here till April 30th. So the "holidays" aren't really happening, children are asked to stay home. Not travel nor mingle.

In Valais the message my kids brought home was that it was OK for them to play with small groups of their friends. Of course there was no official communication from the school so this could just be my kids self serving interpretation of the rules.

Can you please provide a link to his original post? My husband is Italian.
I think the real fault in this case, then, is on behalf of whoever incorrectly translated the doctor's post and then published that incorrect or misleading translation.

I provided plenty of evidence whith the links I posted. Whit deepl or google translate everyone can read and understand. This is not being aggressive nor defensive.

In Italy right now we are swimming in a pool full of shit, we hope we can survive thanks to the late restrictive measures, but is not sure. You can learn from our mistakes without the need to spread, even unintentionally, fake news.

The post was intended, imho, to stimulate a reaction in Italy, the one we finally had too late. The post is against the people saying 'oh, is just like a flu'

Fact is, they need clicks to survive, they need to make the news more attractive.

Calm down. I just asked you for a link to the doctor's original statement so that my Italian husband could translate it for me tomorrow. I trust his Italian more than I trust an online translator. For all we know, it could be an online translator that caused this misunderstanding in the first place.

2. Like many, our school announced its closing down as from Monday. Although totally expected and we had been preparing for it for the last 2 weeks, it was so strange to see the children looking gutted, numb and sad rather than going "yeah, school is closing down!". One little girl was in tears and, eyes all welling, told me: "I don't want our school to shut, but I know it is to help and protect old persons like you, Sir" It's true that at 50 I must look 100 to her!

Thank you.

And yes, sensationalism is a problem. Keep people enraged and engaged, and that ups their ratings.

Re: Coronavirus

Well Lenk-Adelboden will be open at least this weekend, according to their website . They say they have checked with Bern and ok to open. No big téléphériques here anyhow.

Anyhow, glad randonnée season will start early this season and will have solitude in the mountains.

Quote:
ALL SWISS SKI RESORTS TO CLOSE - BUT FRANCE IS STILL OPEN ( ...this post is being updated as we get more detail....)

The Swiss Federal Council announced in a press conference on Friday afternoon a series of stringent measures to tackle coronavirus.

The effect is that all Swiss ski resorts must close in accordance with a ban on social gatherings of more than 100 people.

The canton of Graubünden has decided to close all its ski areas from Monday.

It includes Laax which has confirmed that lift operations will be suspended on Monday.

"We are also inconsolable about the early end of the season in the LAAX ski resort. However, the safety of our guests, employees and the locals is of the utmost importance," the resort said on its website

We were told that Zermatt in the Valais would also close on Monday but a reliable source in the resort has told us it will, in fact, close on Saturday.

However Saas-Fee, and Verbier, both also in the Valais, have closed with immediate effect.

"We must unfortunately announce the immediate closure of our ski area and all our facilities. (Friday March 13, 2020 from 7:30 p.m.) and this for the rest of the season," Verbier said in a statement.

"All events scheduled on the ski area for the rest of the season are cancelled as well as the Liverpool week also taking place in the resort.

"After such a beautiful first part of the season and a second which looked very promising due to the fabulous snow conditions, we are all very sad and sorry for this outcome. However, in view of the evolution of this pandemic, we must respect and apply without restraint the decisions of our authorities to resolve this public health problem."

They watched the press conference: Playing with up to 49 others is okay.
Toys are not to be shared though, so get on to it.

According to "24 Heures", the 12 hospitals in Canton Vaud have a total capacity of 50 patients in critical care and 80 in intensive care. As of today they have 26 patients in the former facilities and 17 patients in the latter.

Well, actually "they" said it's not bad if your kid plays with their best friend. (as per epidemiologist from Lausanne uni). I take it the group is small, very small. A dyad? lol

They finally closed the schools but now we'll have to entertain our kids..

I've watched the news on a French tv channel and one of the mums made me laugh - "Oh, what on earth I'm supposed to do with 3 kids at home all day long?!". People keep their humour and sanity. We need to.
