OK, they have added British/Eire passport holders to the list (Good luck figuring out all the various UK passports). What about the Vatican, San Marino and Andorra? They all have their own passports, but aren’t on the list!
But do you think they know that those countries exist?

Worse than that, we don't know which towns have infections and which don't.
We both know the answer: All.

I think it's safe to say folks on both sides are going to be stuck for a while. Anyone fancy visiting Canada??
Just hoping we're going to be able to drive back to the UK in a couple of weeks. Borders being closed is worrying.

Re: Coronavirus

Tessin just ordered all bars, restaurants and shops except for food shops & pharmacies to close from tonight midnight onwards.

Vaud just ordered all bars and restaurants to close at 22:00 at the latest from now on.

That's going to crimp nightlife substantially in Lausanne.

The point made is that it would make a huge difference - if you and a large % of your valley are infected and you go to an infection-free area of France to go shopping, for example. Without the info being shared with the public, there's no way to know....
Problem is, with that information people will head to the virus free places, bring the virus with them. No, I don't know the answer either.

Re: Coronavirus

Does no-one on this thread speak any of the country’s languages .
Because this thread is a complete joke.

You people are wandering the streets completely and utterly uninformed. It‘s frightening, especially in times of an unprecedented crisis like this. And you could be infectious.

Go inform yourselves. If you can‘t speak the language then visit other English speaking sites, or use Google translate.

Sort of.

Actually, they are more afraid of picking it up here and bringing it back to Italy!

I believe it was a typo from 20 Min. The actual situation:

Re: Coronavirus

Oh, and because I‘m kind, here the Google translation:

Ticino closes all restaurants, bars and shops

The Ticino State Council has taken further measures against the corona virus: restaurants, bars and shops have to close on Saturday midnight.

Accordingly, all public places - restaurants, pubs, hotels, gas station snacks - must be closed. All shops have to close - including hairdressing and beauty salons. The administration will be reduced to a minimum from Monday. Grocery stores, pharmacies and petrol stations may remain open. Post and bank counters are also not closed. Canteens in retirement homes can also continue to serve meals.

With these measures, the situation in Ticino is becoming increasingly similar to that in Italy. A general ban on going out has so far been waived.

The package of measures was presented by the State Council in corpore under the direction of District President Christian Vitta in Bellinzona on Saturday evening. It supplements measures already taken during this week.

I don't you read that correctly. All bars restaurants and shops (except the two types mentioned) are closed from midnight onwards till whenever the virus is eradicated. That's anything but life as usual.

I don't go to bars, restaurants, or shops, so for me it is life as usual.

And shops are only as of Monday. And shops at gas stations are still open.

Until they tell me that I can't go to work, it's life as usual.

I shopped yesterday evening at the Hieber's in Binzen, D, near Basel. I chose that store because it's relatively small and a little distant from large population areas.
Just about everything was available; plenty of veges, meat (some on special; 40% off!), fish, poultry, canned everything, bread. Just no toilet paper, and almost no kitchen towel, although this being Hieber's, they had a few rolls of bamboo-paper kitchen rolls at €20 each.
Oh, and I couldn't find the fajita kits. Full crisis mode.
Which makes me wonder whether all these hoarders preparing their self isolation fallout shelters
have forgetten one important item ?

Well Spain's in a state of alarm today with more announcements expected later today as the number of
cases go up by 1500 in a day.

BBC News - Spanish Coronavirus cases go up by 1,500 in a day
So the Spanish are the ones who have all the test units?

This Worldometers information is comprehensive, although two weeks old, and shows categorically that the risk of death increases with age (almost exponentially after the age of 50), with those aged 80+ having a more-than-one-in-five chance of dying if COVID-19 is confirmed.
So omtatsat's only crime this time was not being able to find the link to the Tages Anzeiger.
Didn't see an oops, sorry.

I say the general public shouldn't wear masks and those who are vulnerable should stay home and not go out.

When the Bulgarian president puts on a mask it looks like this:

Watch around 13 seconds mark
Theh guy expected to get shot obviously. Someone should take a look at his activities lately. But - as we were told re Putin - people concentrate on corona only.

I'm trying to decide how I feel about widespread testing. On the one hand, it seems like a good idea to test as many people as possible and get some statistics. On the other, this is clearly everywhere now and the test is expensive, so is it a decent ROI to test everyone possible? ....
The thing is: If you're tested negative, that is outdated 15 minutes later.
If you're tested positive you need to quarantine - yet you also need to do that if you only suspect to be positive. And if you seriously got it, it's so obvious that a tests is almost unnecessary because you will need treatment no matter what it is you got.

A friend found out they certainly don't know where Liechtenstein is.
..... From the sound you need to make to pronounce Lichtenstein, they will automatically assume the country is infected.

About shopping in Germany, I'm also insecure about whether I can get the stuff I get from there regularly. (Not food). After all, it's not the border that is the problem. I might ask a friend for help who flies back and forth regularly anyway.
Odile in particular: If she lives remote and the French food store is closer than the next Swiss one, it perfectly makes sense to me to shop in France. Again, it's not the border, it is how far do you want to travel and enhance the chances (for yourself as well as for the others).

Re: Coronavirus

Crazy how fast rates are jumping in Switzerland. I am surprised they haven’t taken stronger action, so many people seem completely oblivious too it. Not a lot of social distancing happening. I am relatively new here, but a friend said Swiss culture, they care about the $$$ and economic impact > death of the vulnerable. Seems to be reflected in the slow response.

Given how shite the testing is in Switzerland (only if high risk I was told when I rang about a direct exposure) ... cases have to be a heap higher then reported. Which means the death rates will come down significantly... but healthy systems can’t cope with 10-20-50% of the population getting the flu at once— that drives the #of deaths up substantially, not enough beds, respirators for those that could normally be saved, instead can’t be - from what I’ve read in Italy.

Anyone hear How is the Swiss health system coping ?

Not to mention that if you don't eat you don't digest and you don't need toilet paper.
