Ah! There's my answer then: No shopping in Germany.
Apologies if everyone has seen this, thought it was FUNNY.
Not sure if it‘s available if you haven‘t registered with the Tages Anzeiger (I have registered, and don‘t pay anything for it):

The point made is that it would make a huge difference - if you and a large % of your valley are infected and you go to an infection-free area of France to go shopping, for example. Without the info being shared with the public, there's no way to know.

It's really disappointing that in the information age, we're being denied life-saving info. Didn't/don't the Chinese have apps showing hot spots, and also the ability to demonstrate to others that they had not been to those places?
I don't know about china, but in Hong Kong people make use of social media to share information like "list of buildings with people in self-quarantine"(just the name of the building, no personal data of course), and as well press conference from Centre of Health Protection almost everyday to report details of new cases, how they might be possibly infected (travelling, hot-pot gathering etc.), people infected are from the same flat of different floors, could it be the pipes etc... follow-up of active cases... and so on, everything is as transparent as possible. The entire city work together for prevention, with some debates here and there of course, constant fact-checking and debunking BS, it is very tiring but I'm really happy to see people cooperate to at least try helping each other.

Just announced that all non essential shops will close in FRance from midnight tonight. Chemists and supermarkets will stay open. All bars, restaurants, discos, theaters, cinemas, etc, too.
Do you mean bars, restaurants, discos etc will stay open? Or will close?
It’s not clear from your post.

and French workers into Geneva, Vaud and Neuchâtel...

but they are the nurses, the doctors, the care workers, and more. How would the health/social care system run without them? Our local care home for the elderly is staffed almost entirely with frontaliers- same as all the hospitals. My GP is French and crosses the border every day.

OK. So let only essential workers such as these through. Nobody else. Or run on reduced staff.

Your employers will have / (should have) informed days / weeks ago.

Well, I made a couple of informative posts before the outbreak on the actual situation.

Have never received so many neg. reps (red blobs) and groans. So decided it wasn’t worth it anymore.

It’s still not worth it, but you asked.

All I do nowadays as far as EF is concerned, is watch the fun.

It seems to me that just about everyone does know some part of something about Corona, but [some of] the information is contradictory, so that it takes a bit of work to sift through the junk, the fake information and the placating nonsense, to try to find some sort of science, and even that is - by the admission of the researchers - incomplete, by a long way.

Some employers capitalize on this, or are just afraid of their businesses/services going down the drain, so they sigh and say: "Oh, well, just come to work," and some people have gone into complete self-quarantine even though they are neither sick nor in a high-risk group. Many are just overwhelmed, and quite a lot are a little scared, while others are indifferent, and some even think it's all a hype about nothing. Life's like that: there are always people on the extremes and a lot muddling along inbetween.

For myself, this is what I think I can distill about Covid19.
  1. Most people who get infected do not die.
  2. This virus is strong and travels fast, and mutates.
  3. If a lot of the population are a bit sick, and some are very sick, this is enough to stop basic services working. This is increasingly the case.
  4. Governments have chosen, probably too late, various degrees of lock-down and travel restrictions, many with loopholes that seem to me aburdly lax.

As far as I have understood it, so far, the researchers do not yet know for certain whether, having once been infected, one can ever fully "get clean" or whether one can continue to infect others after having recovered, oneself. If many people get it, and can continue to pass it on even when they're feeling much better, that'll change the shape of our society on an ongoing basis, not just for a phase. If it turns out that once gets over it one becomes resistant and non-infectious, that'll be great news.

Precautions seem to be only in terms of washing hands, perhaps wearing masks when out, trying to eat healthily, reducing or quitting smoking, getting enough exercise and enough sleep, and generally avoiding contact and travel, unless essential. And buying in some stocks of basic foods that last. And, sometimes, reminding others of this.

Beyond that, also in doing whatever it takes (and each of us is different in this) to remain sane and reasonable, as far as possible. For me, that includes reading, but also listening to the very silly songs... somehow despite all the seriousness they make me chuckle, and that's gotta be good for my immune system.

Have always said that I might say something if there are a lot of dick-heads running the forum. Well, maybe not in those words.

Well, back to this thread...
