Re: Coronavirus

Asked our young friend in London, who has just come back from skiing in France and is Head Chef in a great restaurant- if he was going to self isolate for 2 weeks.

The reality is ''we don’t get that luxury in the hospitality industry! I had an email from HR saying if we chose to self isolate we would be unpaid for the first 3 days and statutory sick pay only after that!''

Exactly.

We are fortunate enough to live within a country that doesn‘t allow that.
The measures taken have been made within the Swiss law i.e. there was no choice. Every employee must be protected etc...

So teachers also need to be protected.

I believe that Switzerland is making the right decisions, at the right time.

Other countries may be reacting because no such employment laws are in place, also concerning their health care system etc...

I have no problems with people not giving ibuprofen but using alternatives which even might be better, there is to me no discussion on that.

I do have a problem with people saying that it makes the disease worse and thus it must be avoided, I can imagine somebody having a kid at 40.6 Degrees and only having Ibuprofen at home, but not giving any since there is an assumption without scientifically foundation going round that it makes the disease worse.

CHUV Lausanne (uni hospital for Vaud) has posted a message confirming that anti-inflammatories should NOT be given if Coronav is suspected, to adults of children- so ibuprofen, Diclofenac, Naproxen, etc. and that paracetamol should be used instead.

Re: Coronavirus

Thank you, French is also no problem.

I was also worried about a reportage that appeared in the Tages Anzeiger a couple of weeks ago. Can’t find it on the TA search function anymore (seems to be as nearly as bad as EF). But they also stated that test results show that people that take medicamentation to reduce their blood-pressure are also under special risk (count me in).

Since then, I don‘t have any idea if I‘m in a Risk group or not, although I‘m under 65 and with the medis. only have hypotension nowadays (blood pressure below 120 over 80).

I don‘t know, confusion everywhere, and chaos elsewhere.

Lots going around. Like in war days, there needs to be a central information point.

Just sayin‘

Does anyone know what a non-composulary school is ? (I.e what Ticino has closed?)

I am a little confused what they mean ?

Note from ISZL seems to infer (take all your shit home) the canton will close schools tomorrow arvo.
In Switzerland, elementary school is compulsory. Elementary school is Primarschule and Sekundarschule.

This seems to explain it clearly.

Information about Education in Switzerland

Well, I am sure that you are not the only person in this situation.

Situations of my close friends are currently those who have partners / families and or main residences in Spain / Germany / Denmark / Costa Rica / Australia / New Zealand / Canada / Italy etc. Just get back home, quick!

I think it's a bit harsh, i think Switzerland has done more than UK IMO...but maybe.
I flew from Kuala Lumpur via Singapore to Zurich around the 20th of January. Temperature screening was in place at KLIA and Changi, but arriving in Zurich no sign of anything like that.

A few days later I arrived via BA from London at the E gates around the same time as a Swiss Shanghai or Beijing flight and I did not see any temperature screening in what should have been peak Corona in China (maybe they did check as they were getting off the plane). Having felt terrible already about flying when all the Singapore Airlines crew were wearing face masks, I decided after seeing the Chinese flight arrival to cancel all my business trips. Last night, a friend arrived from Germany, and she said there was no screening in Zurich.

My office only decided to shut down the large canteen as of this week. There are no temperature measuring machines in the office whereas in Singapore it was compulsory to measure your temperature twice a day if you are some of the 40% still allowed in offices (apparently by govt. orders).

Today I went cross country skiing. As I was putting my gear on, a postauto bus arrived, packed like sardines. Definitely more than 50 people on the bus. This can't be serious...

It is a plan of the English government, to simply lock up the older people for months till the younger ones all have been infected :P

I grew up with the same

Nasty stuff. It did not get horded. Ever. Though one learns how to soften it....etc. Never use newspaper, the printing ink is toxic, dtto for making a paper maché, always wear gloves. The glue in it and ink aren't heathy.
Today, newspapers use soy or water-based inks that are not toxic.
If you want to be sure then ask them which ink they use.

Some newspapers carry a logo "SoySeal" then you do not need to ask.
Brochures and such that are printed on glossy paper sometimes have petroleum-based inks that are not safe to eat!

Agreed, it's a bit weird when at the same time some other European countries didn't even stop big (sport) events until recently. The next step will be to close all stores, restaurants and clubs. Wouldn't be suprised if this would come next week in Switzerland as some cantons have already started to move towards that direction. It would be the reasonable thing to do.
Well, it's pretty obvious that it's going to happen. Whatever is happening in Italy, will first affect Ticino and then proceeds to spread across the entire country. As long as the Swiss government doesn't impose adequate measures, we're basically sitting in a ticking time-bomb. The 800 newly infected is just the tip of the iceberg and I suspect that we'll peak some time by the end of April, all a little too late IMO.
