Don't know if it's been asked before ( thread is really long ) but what is the general view on cleaning ladies - should one ask them not come? And one should pay regardless, right?
I just wrote to our cleaning lady and told her not to come for the next few weeks until the virus is contained. I also wrote that we would pay her during this time (after all, this is not her doing and she needs to support her family )

I just received 3 SMS from shops in France (Land Rover dealer) that as of tomorrow they close shop until further notice. As it seems France will close everything

The coop which is located in Planpalais, Geneva is madness.

No pasta since Saturday, no tuna, virtually no tins, now some people are just stripping the shelves of the chicken, meat, all the eggs have gone.

Not panicking and most probably this is isolated but some people are being a bit selfish ...

Sure it will be re-stocked tomorrow as not much seems to have come today.

My daughter who recently turned 14 needs some sanitary towels, there are none didn't expect to be facing that one.
Gas stations will have them (Pancakes was right), coop pronto and regular coop at Cornavin should have them. There is a large Migros at Cornavin too and Almavita. Let us know.

Ohio seems to be leading the way here in the US. They closed schools last week as well as gatherings > 100. Yesterday, they announced the shut down of bars and restaurants at close of business that day. We (my family) went out to my favorite Mexican place one more time when we heard the news.

I tipped the waitress the value of the meal and wished her good luck. Lots of fear in her eyes.

Interesting times.

"My daughter who recently turned 14 needs some sanitary towels, there are none didn't expect to be facing that one."

We take it for granted that some things are always available, I consider myself to be lucky to have been a teenager when the first adhesive towels came on to the market. If all else fails, do you have any panty liners where you could use 2 together for absorbency until you can find towels? Just an idea.

Here's practical advice about making, using and caring for re-usable cloth pads:
This girl has several videos about pads, etc. This is her intro:

Encouragement. Fabric upcycling. Try it out, and don’t worry if the first ones you sew aren’t perfect. Adjust the pattern to suit your own needs.

Popped into a local SPAR, good selection of fresh fruit, veg and meats. Apart from Toilet Paper, everything else looked available. At checkout-till people were keeping distance. Keep Calm and Carry On vibe.
Excellent. I was rather surprised at the way shelves looked in the morning in my local Coop, and bought only what I could find. Plenty of pasta, breads, meat etc instead but not much luck in the fruits/vegetables area. And no toilet paper, obviously.

Next time I'll try Migros, there's no SPAR in my area.

Re: Coronavirus

I went to our Migros this morning and was surprised that all the fresh fruit and veggies were fully stocked (though the bags o' taters were looking a bit sparse). Most of the milk, pasta, tomato sauce and meat was gone, though.

Any more word regarding the meeting earlier today? I've seen a few more recent updates here but nothing about canton Zurich or a potential lock-down across the country. Anyone know of anything more?

Swisscom:
"The extraordinary situation has led to a rapid increase in the use of our telecommunications services in the last few hours. This has led to an enormous increase in the strain on the infrastructure of both landline and mobile networks: we are currently recording three times as many calls via the mobile network and the volume has also risen massively in the landline network. As of 9:00 a.m. today, private and business customers have been unable to make certain calls. Mobile and landline telephony calls may be affected. We are working intensively on expanding capacity and are asking our customers to use the telecommunications networks sensibly and responsibly.
Probably until:16.03.2020, evening
Start time:16.03.2020, 09:00"

I couldn't even get a landline dialling tone this morning. It's OK now, though.
