As I predicted, a hospital has decided to ask it's crossborder personnel to reside nearby temporarily. Clearly they're spooked by the French defence council going on at the moment.
Wondered how this was going to be addressed because most hospitals in Suisse Romande are staffed by French employees

Someone post that link to the press conference again please? Thanks.

ask them to stay locally? they can't be forced. Borders will stay open for such staff.

Oh! When I saw you'd answered Curley, and I hadn't looked at the second part of her post, I was expecting this link to lead to something funny showing a cleaner with a mighty long broom.

Re: Coronavirus

While we wait around for the Federal Council, here are some measures taken today that stick out:

- Valais is closing all hotels as well as non essential shops NO gatherings of any kind, private or public, will be tolerated. Fines are of 10'000CHF!

- Vaud has brought gatherings down to 10, fines are of 20 000CHF. Restaurants and bars to close, food delivery and takeaways are allowed. Non essential shops to close.

- Geneva is banning gatherings over 5 people, same measures as Vaud

- Neuchâtel is setting the ban at 20 people, Jura at 50, with a 10 000CHF fine in case of violations.

Vaud & Jura are banning all visits at hospitals and nursing homes.

Number of days off without having to present a medical certificate : VS 5, JU 8, VD 10

Re: Coronavirus

Luckily there is a more serious and responsible thread going-on which you may or may not have missed.

I hope that this will not be infected by other types of viruses.

The Bund announcement is scheduled for 17:00 today.

Sounds like the EU are planning on closing Schengen borders to incoming travel. I wonder what Switzerland would do? As the virus is already rife here, and many countries within Schengen have already closed their borders, it’s rather like stopping smoking after being diagnosed with terminal lung cancer.

Looks like there are about 12 minutes to go before the conference begins. I assume that it will not be auto-translated in English, so if anyone can jot down some important facts / updates and post them here in English, that would be so helpful. Thanks.

I just wrote to our cleaning lady and told her not to come for the next few weeks until the virus is contained. I also wrote that we would pay her during this time (after all, this is not her doing and she needs to support her family )
I've done the same. We would have spent the money on her anyway. My wife also gave her manicure lady a 100% tip a couple of weeks ago, not knowing when she can resume her regular visits. I can't understand why one needs to spend so much on manicure but this is the right thing to do. These are the people who are affected first in the trashed economy and we should at least make it easier for them.

So are Neuchâtel, it has been the case for a couple of days now.

There are çurrently 20 people hospitalised in Neuchâtel canton, 11 in Neuchâtel and 9 in La Chaux-de-Fonds. 2 of these are in intensive care.
