I also would like to understand what "lockdown" here means exactly (I wasn't able to understand the recent conference). I understand that grocery stores and pharmacies will remain open, but that's all I know. I'm going to cancel my dentist appointment for next month since it was just a cleaning anyways.
I really hope that it will still be considered okay for people to go out for bike rides, kids to play outside, etc.
I expect no activity outside your house within 24-48 hours.

Re: Coronavirus

Everyone, there is no quarantine like in Spain on Italy.

You are free to go outside but not to congregate.

So you can continue going for walks, runs, walking the dog, sitting in the park etc.

Re: Coronavirus

As a population it is our own choice now if we keep the freedom they left us, if we are responsible and indeed only go out when needed or just have a walk or cycle somewhere without gathering and all such there is no need to make it more strict. If we screw this up than we get the same as Italy.

Frontaliers will be able to continue crossing the border, Swiss citizens will be able to return to the country, merchandise will still come into Switzerland and through travel is also authorised.

It seems klostergirl was spot on regarding the army in her post yesterday.

My rusty German is not as bad as I thought it was.

This. I was thinking of her too when I heard their decision. They're actually talking about it as we speak.

Edit: according to defence minister this is the greatest mobilisation after the second world war

It states 2,200 cases but that is the same number as midday yesterday?
https://www.bag.admin.ch/ site is not updated either since midday yesterday.

So far as I understand there is no ban on leaving home?
They haven't published numbers for today, probably the number is in many thousands.

In Madrid the public transport is still running and the busses still rammed with people in the rush hour.
Will be the same in London.

People need to take responsibilty for their health themselves and not expect the govt. to magically protect them.

Well I was at the airport Tuesday evening and it was deserted and about 30% of departures were cancelled. I didn't fly but my GF did and she was through security in 2 mins.
This is now:
https://flightaware.com/live/airport/LSZH

That ~30% you sensed as low who knows at what time of the day means anyhow more cases moving around from country to country. The level of contagion won't be put under control if we don't do a radical stop for a couple of weeks.

Parks will be closed and it's strongly suggested NOT to go outside for anything but groceries and work.

Re: Coronavirus

Contagion is happening within the community and has been happening within the community for close to 2 weeks now. Travels in or out don't really change anything at this point. Travel bans are useful if instated immediately, in this case it would have meant no travel from China starting probably around mid December when lo and behold the Chinese government was hiding the newly discovered virus and silencing anyone who dared mention it. The virus has been freely circulating in Italy and Washington state since mid Januray according to virologists, it must have been hanging around here too, we just didn't know about it and didn't diagnose it.

I agree, I don't see many people following that suggestion. People need to walk the dog and walk themselves. I can't see any reason at this point to make everyone stay 100% inside. As long as we're out in the big outdoors and spaced apart and not in contact for long, I think fresh air is a good thing for the body and the mind.

Who is strongly suggesting that?

Up to now, because of where I live (in the countryside) and the time I go (early in the morning), I never see a soul when I go out running.

I'm not likely to see a lot of people now, am I?

Pets are now food.
I suggested we buy pet food and later use it as bait. Assuming I would rather eat a pet than pet food. This way we have options.
