Are any electronic shops such as mediamarkt, fnac or interdiscount still open in Geneva?
Not sure about the high street shops but Mediamarkt online is still operating -- or at least they accepted my order for something today, and tell me it will be delivered tomorrow.

In Germany they are preparing for the crisis by stocking up on sausages and cheese. They are calling this a Würst Käse scenario.
It seems unfair to groan you but in more than 10 years of reading EF, this is the first time I've literally groaned at a post.

Oh? Not me. Tobias, your post had me shrieking in laughter! Really, I think this should get a medal as one of the funniest Corona jokes so far.

Consolation prize: Pachyderm, your post made me smile, too.

Re: Coronavirus

https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/

"3526 new cases and 345 new deaths in Italy: Bergamo (Lombardy region) has run out of intensive care beds. Unions are demanding the closure of post offices after the deaths of 2 postal workers who were on their job until a few days ago "

Something tells me these 2 postal workers weren't over 65 with preexisting conditions.

If there's any more online shopping you wanted to do, now may be a good time.

I would have thought all online shops are in business? Should be the perfect way to keep the distance to the customers.
As long as the post is keeping up the service, that is.

I went food shopping again this morning (I finally found the lactose-free milk my kids needed, they were starting to show withdrawal symptoms!), and Migros was full of old people.

Same thing this afternoon when we were starting to get cabin fever and we went for a walk by the lake. Elderly people everywhere, walking or sitting on benches.

Obviously they didn’t get the memo about risk groups and age... im starting to believe in natural selection!
Ahhhh, I see you've visited Pully port lately.

If you've never been on Victory Day in Moscow, Pully port these days is not much different. Except the planes and tanks, everything else is the same

At this moment we don’t have the means to do online teaching. The department is trying to organise something (at least in Vaud), but up to now we’ve always been told NOT to do anything online with parents and students. Thus it’s a bit of a panic to change all recommandations and find ways to switch to online teaching. Plus there are many teachers (of all age!) who are technophobe and can barely write an email on a computer.
Good luck to you!

As i said.. it's all new .. Our teachers might manage some video stuff, we don't know yet.. My kids should be fine with that and I can work out whatever technology they may choose, being a techie.. This sort of thing is just harder for younger kids, they'll get up and walk off..

But going by the WhatsApp group setup by our teachers, some of the parents don't even have a computer?!

No doubt they'll be even concerns about privacy, I might be able to see all of the other kids on the video for example.. Our teachers contacted parents individually to ask for permission to setup a WhatsApp group, cos we could all see each others phone numbers!

Believe it or not, we do electronic banking too in the Wild West. It's called Direct Deposit and money magically shows up in our bank accounts.

We do, however, rob the stagecoaches before the gold is delivered. Its why we need so many guns...

Re: Coronavirus

The school stuff needs a bit of time to fine tune but I have a feeling it will work well. I saw a student of mine today on my way to the post office (we kept away) and I have it on good authority that students miss school. It is making them work maybe even better. The PE is important, we have a workout in the morning, then breakfast and then school/work right after, it makes concentrating easier, creates a routine, keeps a rhythm.

Re: Coronavirus

I spent the day today sewing masks for myself and am doing some tomorrow for my little boy. They're from a pattern I had found online and have a pocket inside for a filter and are washable. They seem to fit pretty well. Not sure how good they'll work in terms of protection, but I figure something is better than nothing when I bring my 84-year old mother-in-law her groceries.

Considering I had 45min between learning schools were closing for 6 weeks and the end of school last Friday afternoon, I set up an emergency WhatsApp group with my teenage students. Which is totally illegal as many are under 16, plus the department forbids it.

But I’ve been literally drowned under messages since then. Kids are obviously worried and anxious to be at home without teacher guidance. Most have zero autonomy and panic for the slightest thing. I had to write a guideline with pictures to connect to a simple website to practice their verbs. And I need to set up online teaching

I also had to call each and every parent in my class to ask about phone numbers and email adresses, plus wether they have a computer at home. Far from all have one, by the way.

All that while dealing with the school programs of my own three kids, one of whom having received an hour by hour program for the next two weeks
