In Germany they are preparing for the crisis by stocking up on sausages and cheese. They are calling this a Würst Käse scenario.
That belongs on the Terrible Jokes thread... oh wait, ch2013 had already posted it there...

Never mind, at least you gave the joke a bigger audience.

Oh well, I doubt he/she could claim credit for that genius joke either, at least it made a few EFers chuckle in this time of need.

Re: Coronavirus

My wife just popped over to her sister's house to deliver an item she needed. She maintained her distance. Clearly grateful for my wife's kind gesture, her sister proceeded to tell her that "inconsiderate people like you" who travelled abroad (my wife had travelled to England for work a couple of weeks ago, before all the restrictions started) were contributing to the spread of the virus, among other accusatory statements. Then the sound of two small kids having fun in a room deeper in the house rang out -- my sister-in-law's three-year-old and a friend, dropped off by his mother who was inconvenienced by the closure of the local Kita.

Some people, eh.

Believe it or not, we do electronic banking too in the Wild West. It's called Direct Deposit and money magically shows up in our bank accounts.

We do, however, rob the stagecoaches before the gold is delivered. Its why we need so many guns...
And you still call it "sending a check"?

I spent the day today sewing masks for myself and am doing some tomorrow for my little boy. They're from a pattern I had found online and have a pocket inside for a filter and are washable. They seem to fit pretty well. Not sure how good they'll work in terms of protection, but I figure something is better than nothing when I bring my 84-year old mother-in-law her groceries.

That's awesome! You did a fantastic job..your mil will love them. People froze stuff I brought them (fabric too) to get rid off germs.

I set up an emergency WhatsApp group with my teenage students. Which is totally illegal as many are under 16, plus the department forbids it.
It's not illegal. WhatsApp's Ts&Cs restrict accounts to over-16s because they couldn't be bothered dealing with all the red tape that comes with a user base under 16, so young children using the app are merely in contravention of WhatsApp's rules.

Your department's rules, well, that's another matter with potential consequences for you, but again, not an issue of legality.

unfortunately,

'According to the WHO, scientists have no reason to believe that cold or even freezing temperatures can kill the virus'

A rubbish article.

"no one in Italy leaves their homes anymore", a total lie.

I work with people who leave there homes and come here to work daily.

Ah ha. What about the 10 million that don’t have bank accounts. Another estimate is 1 in 9 families ...
I just don't get how people look for actual stuff to take a jab at. 10 million, that's roughly 3.3% of the entire population. What do you expect the government to do, employ a squad of people in hazmat suits with wads of cash to look for un- and underbanked people? You play the cards you're dealt with, tough luck.
Because of some messed up loopholes, I was left without health insurance coverage in Switzerland 3 times. There was no cupcake across the globe shedding a tear about it.

Have you seen them in the last week? If so, you should probably quarantine yourself immediately.
