Re: Coronavirus

As of Friday, March 20, 2020, 10 a.m., the Basel-Stadt health department reports a total of 272 positive cases of people residing in the canton of Basel-Stadt.
This is 50 more than the previous day, and about 130 in the last 4 days.

Looks like they are getting into the swing of things with the testing.

Re: Coronavirus

I am slowly losing my rag……

Seldom before, has it been possible, that so many ….. by doing so little …. can do so much for their nation and compatriots…. than vice versa. Free after the famous quote of Winston Churchill.

Two days ago, I was doing garden work, our terrace of semis is surrounded by appt. blocks as well as one of the villages schools. From my garden I have a really good view to playgrounds and the school grounds….jeezz, I got really angry, the mums sitting like chickens on a peg on the benches surrounding the sandpit, no distance between them whatsoever and likewise with the kids and teenagers……grrruuummbblleee!!

I vent in a local FB group about that and allow myself to remark, that of course, should the virus bite exactly those ppl’s ass, they’ll be the ones yelling the loudest about their misfortune. Not thinking, that they themselves could’ve prevented it so easily. I get a slap on my wrist and told that I am really an obnoxious person

Please Lord/gods/holy entities..let it rain some brain!!!

Re: Coronavirus

A multinational company in Lausanne which was open with reduced staff this week has just started preparation for a full lock down. They expect it tonight. In any case they are preparing nobody to show up on Monday

Oh how I agree with you. I am also beginning to lose patience with the amount of grey haired heads I see from my self imposed lockdown ambling about without a care in the world. Oh the irony!

A BBC europe correspondant has tweeted another announcement is expected in CH later today indicating further restrictions on people leaving their homes. Something like full lockdown.

Yes, we are hearing this everywhere too. Lots of companies scrabbling around to try and sort out home working.

Re: EF Community Corona Helpline

You can still go to work (with a letter from your employer), you can still go to the post office, shop, go for walkies with your dog etc etc.

So anything everyone here already should do

A grey-haired head speaks:
I thought it was perfectly legal and even sensible to 'amble about' -- locally, and in ones or twos (in your household)? In fact, I thought it was recommended for mental health.

Tell me if this advice has changed. The chance of getting/passing on the virus surely comes in the supermarket, chemists, post office, workplace, public transport, or other permitted gathering place, rather than out in the open air, with no one else anywhere near?

Clarification please.

Re: Coronavirus

It's almost weekend, the numbers have gone up a lot during the last 48 hours. This morning already another 676 cases, army is deployed, hospitals start to reach their max and many people/companies seem to care shit about current restrictions.

Lock-down with fierce restrictions is the only logical next step, and I expect nothing less to be announced today.

It is, as long as distance is kept. Too many people then gathering and sitting together on benches etc and standing about chatting is not allowed and this is the issue. Papers are saying the rule breakers are the teenagers (which was expected) and the elderly. My husband cancelled his annual rail pass renewal on Monday. The SBB worker said the trains were full of older people going off on little jaunts.

I am grey haired myself (or will be now I can't get to a hairdresser). The real issue is that older people getting ill are far more likely to have complications and use up resources. It behoves us all to be sensible.

Re: Coronavirus

EDIT & Apology for my post #4,252 r.e. 'New symptoms' - loss of sense of smell and taste.

I've since heard that whilst these symptoms have been reported, they are late stage symptoms in the milder cases of coronavirus, and they are also common side effects of many strains of colds and flu. They are NOT symptoms that indicate you may have contracted the virus.

Sorry!
