It really is one of the fundamental questions right now and somebody just said it out loud.

Stephen Moore, a former adviser to President Donald Trump on Thursday questioned whether California’s new statewide lockdown order to stop the spread of the coronavirus was really worth the damage it will cause to the economy.
Berset said something similar, "we need workers, plumbers, postman etc etc to continue normal lives" when talking about a confinement

I guess they turning to the approach of the UK and Sweden

When one thinks about, eventually we will need to get back to work and kids to school. Virus or not.

I just colored my hair for the first time in ages and let's just say, its not the best and I am "underwhelmed" by my efforts! The good news is that hair grows . At least that is my philosophy at the moment and hey, it's better than gray (or at least my gray!)

Re: Coronavirus

My cleaning person left the apartment in happy tears today, clutching a note that I had left together with several weeks payments in advance (all disinfected beforehand).

It had to be a note because she doesn‘t understand a word of German or French, so I used Google translate to Portuguese to explain that I will continue to pay her (at the moment) even if she can‘t make it to work due to restrictions that might be enforced, or if she needs to self-isolate (was reminded of this by a previous EF post in the early days of this virus). No idea where to find that now...

Definitely, the number of newly infected cases increased exponentially since yesterday. . .or, they the figured out how fax machines work. One or the other. But I also suspect the implementation of more rigid restrictions.
It said recently on the government website that exponential growth is expected until next Friday. Then it will be seen whether the measures being taken are having effect. If they are, then the death rate will also see a diminishing growth, but a few days later. I.e. exponential growth is not cause for panic at this time. In two weeks, definitely.

"The Swiss are escaping general lockdown. However, the Federal Council decided on Friday to tighten the measures: gatherings of more than five people are prohibited. These groups are liable to a fine. 32 billion more will be made available for the economy.
So... 32 billion, raised from 320 million 100CHF fines?

The social distance of at least two metres must be respected for groups of less than five people.
So, when we're out, my wife and I must keep two metres apart? So be it.

Re: Coronavirus

Numbers Italy are insane again.

627 deaths and 5.986 new cases.

Good thing is however that they also finally start to show more serious numbers for persons considered cured, 5,129 now in total.

Switzerland has for today 13 deaths, 56 total and 1.143 new cases.

Yep, one of us now has to sleep on the couch, next to the whisky cabinet, the telly and the game consoles.

Life continues as normal then. Good to know.

While out today - criminal I know - I only saw a few people not adhering to the rules. Most seem to have got the message.

Re: Coronavirus

We’ve told our femme de menage to stay at home, but we will continue to pay here and make her social payments.

While it isn’t a large amount of money, she needs it more than we do.

Are we able to claim some of this money back from the government program?
