Re: Coronavirus

Appologies if some of this information has been posted already but:
The UK announced that all public venues, that is pubs, restaurants, gyms, theatres and cinemas
must close. This being on top of the announcement that all schools must close on Friday with only
the children of key workers and vulnerable children being allowed to attend special schools that
will remain open for this purpose.
The last time Britain came anywhere near imposing the above restrictions, was as part of
Cold War planning . So lets look at a What-if situation:

TTW - Transition to War in the UK - The ( what-if ) last time the UK enforced The
Emergency Powers Act in the UK when the Cold War turns hot.

Fascinating episode of Duncan Cambells - The Secret Society documentary on British Emergency
powers during the Cold War including public order, lockdowns & rationing which incidently lists
some of the Reserved, Protected or Conscripted Occupations in the UK following a transition to war.
I fast forwarded the video documentary below to where the British Government impose the
Emergency Powers Act.

In time of Crisis - British Emergency Powers when The Cold War turns Hot !!

Ooopps, sorry Ladies,my bad!

Rest assured, Lizzie is well and in one piece and we've plenty of food in stock to survive

We just split the task of walking the dog, fairly between us three, so that each one of us can go out . Better??

Well, to be honest, that's how the whole Corona thing started to begin with, splitting dogs and stuff.

OK, I'll self-contain in the chat-room.

Re: Coronavirus

Was by the lake yesterday with the kids and some old lady got right up close to say hello to my daughter who was in her pram.

She practically ran away when I said 'she has a cough but it's not the virus' :

Cod must be attending the same church my helper is, whose pastor said that on the 27th the virus will be gone.

My moral conundrum: Should one save both assholes and stupid? I hate assholes AND stupid.

contact tracing is what has saved us here - we would have thousands more cases without it. this is not the time to worry about "big brother" for once he might just save your life...https://mustsharenews.com/singapore-contact-tracers/

Thank you for posting the most relevant information on this thread. Is sad that the Swiss government could not take such experience as an example or method to follow. As someone explained on this thread, they worry more about "protecting the economy".

When are the Swiss going to ban the casual cross border shopping?
For sure that will hit (near Basel) the Rheincenter (ghastly experience at the best of times) and the St. Louis supermarkets.

Could be a boost for Coop and Migros, where all the shoppers have the upmost hygeine.
Last weekend I felt a bit of an idiot taking a disinfectant spray to the supermarket and cleaning the trolley handle, this weekend I think it's going to become more normal behaviour.

And now to walk the dog.
In two weeks when all its over

Brilliant, thanks EF! I personally believe that the most visible threads on the home-page of the web-site at the moment should be those related to providing good information to English speaking people that don‘t understand what is currently going-on during this Global Corona virus.

So I‘m all for moving unrelated threads where they belong. They are still available, and find that it‘s great that these EF areas still exist, you might just need to look a little bit more for them.

Bravo and hand-clapping all EF Mods! Thank you!

Re: Coronavirus

I haven't waded through the several hundred pages to see if this link has already been shared, but if you are looking for English-language information about coronavirus in Switzerland, there is a mega-thread that is kept well-updated on the Switzerland subreddit. (normally stickied at the top)

You'll get almost-realtime English translations of key points of the daily government press briefings, among other things. It is a resource I check multiple times each day.

I don‘t believe that all the non-English speaking people (and bank employees) that I‘ve put onto this site since 1986 will adapt quickly. Oder?

Looks like the pandemic is a go! It must be in every capital city by now for sure.
You have to wonder what the impact will be on tourism this summer if the Chinese don't travel (in their previous numbers) to Switzerland.
