We may have similar number of reports per percentage of population but what I'm not seeing, in real life or on local media (even social media) is the same level of horror as elsewhere..

We see no scenes of full hospitals, exhausted medics, panic buying, coffins piled up etc .. We're still only on a partial lock-down too..

So, if, as you say our numbers are way up there with Italy, what are we doing right? Or is the true horror just hidden?
Well, it depends a lot on the distribution of the cases. If you have a lot of cases concentrated in one geographic area like Lombardy then that hits the local hospitals hard.

Ticino is reporting they expect to run out of ICU beds tomorrow.

Indeed, how can they keep Covid19 information behind a paywall? Is miserable they can't release such info immediately following a main fundamental principle of their profession (or ethics). But no. They can't refrain to make profit out of something that puts the whole society at stake.

Valuable info for the general public - Not for the revenues of the Newspaper.
Short-sighted, Selfish, Stubborn and Slow that combo!

Fortunately there are other sources:
SRF, Swissinfo, NZZ, WOZ, etc
Here is a how to get it free guide to TA. I think you have to register first

This is because we're still in the beginning of the tsunami, being N days behind Italy. The dynamic is the same pretty much. There is a pretty long delay between catching the virus and becoming seriously ill, so that's where we are right now. All the immediately upcoming fatalities were infected before closing of schools and other restrictions. And plenty of infecting is still happening, judging by what people are doing

Is it really under control? am I just missing it? is the big wave coming or have we really really flattened the curve?
Control? Horror? Peculiar choices of language under the circumstances.

If it helps you to visualise a little, last week an Airbus A320 was crashing every day in Italy. For the last few days, it's been a A380 per day. When the Germanwings A320 flight crashed in France in March 2015, 150 souls were lost and the story ran on every media channel for weeks. So when we currently have Italy losing an A380 per day and Spain losing a Boeing 747 per day, forgive me but I don't need to see that horror to know it's there.

Re: Coronavirus

Its pretty pathetic that you cannot find alcoholic hand sanitiser anywhere, this should be a priority item available at all checkouts, petrol stations etc.. I've managed to order some from Obi but God knows when they will arrive. As for masks, again these should be made freely available to the public once hospital and clinic supplies have been replenished.

Agree that these should be available everywhere, there is now much more available online thou (aside from ricardo and tutti ripoff prices), Example:

Demand is far exceeding supply and people have generally bought way too much per person, that's why you can't find it anywhere. It will take some tmem before stocks level out again.

Its not even a line-listing in the Migrolino or Coop Pronto at my local train station, that was more my point. These should available everywhere and not only in larger stores or online.

Re: Coronavirus

It's extremely easy to make hand sanitizer yourself, at home. Basically, you need a 75% ethanol solution, with something to moisturize your hands (as ethanol has a very strong desiccating effect).

An Australian teacher explains here (with a little too much "comedy") how to make hand sanitizer using just two ingredients: methylated spirits and aloe vera gel. You should be able to find aloe vera gel at pharmacies.

Re: Coronavirus

If you have any of the alcohol gel you pour into a fondue burner... then it's often the same stuff as hand sanitiser if you need an emergency source (check the ingredients first).

Dilemma time, sacrificing a fondue for hygiene

Say what?

The story ran for weeks because of the circumstances surrounding a pilot who committed mass murder by intentionally crashing an aircraft into a mountain at 700kmh.

In my view, not comparable.

I refer to this website many times a day. I suspect I'm not the only one, as I'm finding that it's often unable to cope with the internet traffic.

You're missing my point ..

We're not (yet) seeing that in CH .. My questions were, has CH dodged the bullet, has CH done something right, does CH still have it coming ..

I don't need you're help to visualise Italy, as I said, I can see that in the media everyday .. I don't see it for CH, that's my point.

As others have since said, it's maybe still coming..

At the entrance cashiers of the large COOP Ryfflihof in downtown Bern, they now sell hand sanitizer in ~50 mL bottles for 4 francs each.

Great to hear, COOP seems to be ahead of the curve in that they have a spray for customers entering the store and their petrol stations have a dispenser by the tills. None of the Migro, Aldi or Lidl stores I've visited have public dispensers... yet.
