Re: Coronavirus

China Mobile, China Telecom and China Unicom have shown a decrease in cumulative mobile subscriber base by 14.9 million in the first two months of 2020.

Theories range from insufficient income to pay for subscriptions due to layoffs due to the virus to the more extreme deaths due to virus.

In 2019, the mobile subscriber base increased by over 1 million each month.

Let's hope not.

Netherlands on the other hand are doing "controlled spread among the groups least at risk" approach.

At this moment sounds a lot more logical
It is what they plan to do, atm they have no control established yet who gets infected, Netherlands is also expected to tighten their lock-down further since the current situation clearly is not working.

That's quite a dramatic statistic. Perhaps some of it is also feeling stunned and not ready to take a decision. I wonder whether there are similar drops in other areas, e.g. car sales.

I personally also have doubts with China's reported deaths, but in this case, the decrease of subscribers is most likely caused by the following reasons:

-they're doing 5G now, so they're gradually clearing up the system's inactive/ghost users. (4G cancellations and 2G cancellations in China Mobile for instance)
-the mainland implemented measures to match up the facial recognition record and mobile numbers, numbers with "inconsistent information" are deleted.

and maybe some are dead cuz of covid19.

Re: Coronavirus

Very light traffic over the friendly skies of Zurich. It is more so interesting to see what is up in the air at the moment. A REGA jet flying into Geneva from Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso) and a BA 747 on its way to Mauritius. I wonder how much of this celestial foot traffic is actually incurred by Corona. Is BA bringing home stranded tourists or delivering health equipment? Is REGA flying in a foreign dignitary?

Great to hear, COOP seems to be ahead of the curve in that they have a spray for customers entering the store and their petrol stations have a dispenser by the tills. None of the Migro, Aldi or Lidl stores I've visited have public dispensers... yet.
That is not true. My little Migros had it at the entrance last week. I used it coming in and after I returned the trolley.

I wonder if there will be a surge of babies being born, because people are forced to stay cooped up inside. The Corona Generation .
I can just see it 20 years from now . . ."Yeah, I'm a Corona baby too. I can't believe how stupid people were back then. "
Are you thinking up names during recovery then?

Don't call a daughter Corinna, please.

Migros in Binningen had a hand sanitizer spray for all to use; this was on Friday last week.

The Migros here has had hand sanitiser at both the entrance and exit since last Monday at least. They may have had it for longer.
The cops and Manor here also have it.

I don't see how lock down will help long term.
Long term being 12 to 18 months, or before a vaccine becomes widely available.

The vulnerable need to isolate properly if they want to survive.
Everyone else just needs to take care and avoid unnecessary risks.

I'm not a scientist, just to get that out of the way.

1) We were talking with Swiss neighbours, one of whom is a medical professional, and the consensus between them apears to be mid-late June or July based upon a better case scenario. Personally, I honestly don't know.

2) We're about to see that now as the southern hemisphere goes into winter and cooler weather. A friend in India told my OH earlier this week that it's being taken very seriously despite them having relatively few cases (360 atm). Schools and colleges have been closed and there are more details here https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-india-51942147 They're very aware that the country couldn't handle a pandemic hotspot. It 'appears' to be that the closer you are to the equator, then less the virus transmits. We shall see.
Perhaps some reassuring news? The virus seems to spread more slowly in hotter and more humid countries according to this information. Perhaps summer will be our saviour?

Re: Coronavirus

"Suddenly they are everywhere, the reprimanders, who also otherwise indulge any pleasure and who now meticulously register all suspected rule violations. Regardless of whether on social media or in conversations, people constantly scold the "idiots" who do not behave quite correctly.

A block waiting mood spreads. Both individuals and entire groups are criticized, preferably “the young” or “the senior”. Pensioners who enjoy the sun on a park bench can now expect to be denounced on the Internet, including their photos, as a national security risk, even if they keep a safe distance. This is often accompanied by the demand for even stricter bans."

"Anyone who does not take part in this is quickly considered a «trivializer». You can live with this accusation - at least much better than with a curfew. Fortunately, our authorities also see it that way, which so far has expressly spoken out against “Chinese conditions”. On Saturday, the Federal Office of Public Health even spread some optimism - the best signal against those who are flirting with totalitarian measures."

A long hot summer could provide some respite, but it would probably have to be over 30 degrees day after day, and it would only be respite. We've had that for a number of weeks in recent years. However, that would provide valuable time to regroup and shore up resources.

The name of the game is isolation so the virus will die out without spreading.
Might want to read about St. Louis. One of the few cities to practice this in 1919. https://www.influenzaarchive.org/cit...-stlouis.html#
