Re: Coronavirus

That's pretty much spot on with all current reports. Why someone would label that as "probably fake news" is beyond me.

I can understand why one would be careful with any news nowadays, considering the country with the by-far biggest military, propaganda and spy services has a notorious liar in charge, but this seems to all be fact-based data that are lining up pretty much with all hard evidence so far having been reported.

And get a flu-shot, if you haven’t already. You are much more likely to die from the seasonal flu than from this virus.
Thanks for bringing this up.

Do any of you know where one can still get a flu shot in Switzerland?

As luck would have it, this was the first year that I was not able to get a flu shot; I was ill in October/Nov so my doc wouldn't let me have it. By the time I was healthy enough in Dec, no doctor or Apotheke in the wider area had any of the vax left.

Have new supplies been released?

Check with your pharmacy. In VD they are allowed to provide flu jabs, some other cantons as well.

It is not beyond you.

It is your own understanding:

I think we will see something closer to real data sometime in 2 months. Or not. I don't want to think about how the "quarantine" is done there.

Anyone with suspicions about the numbers should read this from the New York Times, (that well know fake news provider [sarcasm]).

Cruiseship Diamond Princess has 99 new confirmed infections bringing the total to about 450.
Another day, another number.

542 confirmed infections currently.

I do not know what their definition of Quarantine is, but they should buy a new dictionary I'd say.

There's this report from an expert:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Coronavirus...ibing_what_he/

Basically, the ship could just as well be run by Josef Mengele himself.

I hope everybody on this ship is suing the cruise-line for whatever is left of them.

Re: Coronavirus

Who pays for it all out of interest?

Example - Those on the infamous cruise ship.. After their 14 day "holiday" they stay onboard, eat, drink, die.. Then get taken to a hospital if they didn't die, then flown home, maybe. Some have probably missed work etc etc.

Does the cruise line, hospital, airlines bite the bullet? The passengers? The governments?

Everybody takes a bite of the bullet here, it also strongly depends on where you are from and what kind od insurances you have. Swiss people would get money for sick leave through insurance or employer and most likely we have health insurances and travel insurances. Others come from a country without such system and they'll simply miss out on income and perhaps pay them bill for themselves. Hospitals don't treat for free, they will send the bill to people directly, charge governments, charge insurances. As for flying back, here it is the governments chartering an airplane (Or use their military) and yet again they can charge travel insurances, health care insurances, they can charge people or simply offer it as an service and have the taxpayer pay.

And yeah if you are a Swiss contractor without travel insurance and without additional healthcare and without income insurances this could become a financial disaster thanks to the person being an El Cheapo

Well, yes - although governments are chartering aircraft suggesting they are paying for this.

Can you imagine the costs to passengers if these boats were quarantined off Miami?

https://twitter.com/jenniferatntd

Interesting Twitter account from Jennifer Zeng to get a better idea of how China has no clue on how to fight/win this "battle" and how the government is trying to keep on downplaying and controlling the public.

(Not just another random posting unknown person)

In the meanwhile Chinese Government says the peak has been, numbers are dropping and this could all be over in March, however South-Korea has gone over 100 reported cases and panic, Beijing with an population of over 20 Million goes in tight lockdown, a Factory that had to restart is again closed down due to many infections, Iran has reported their first two deaths and 3 more infected people in Qom and Arak, and on the cruiseship Diamond Princess the first people have died.

This is going to be a long winter....

South Korea reporting significant uptick in virus activity.

Iran also reporting first Coronavirus deaths. They seem to have gone from no cases to five dead in a week or so. Not sure how reliable the reporting is or what might be going on there.

That's not true, the Indonesian minister of Health has declared that statistics and mathematics are untrustworthy nonsense and Indonesia has little to nothing to worry about since they pray a lot and therefor the country has no cases..

(That country went relatively quickly to being just another religious nutcase)

Don't think that be the last time such happens. People only read that the tests are unreliable, that quarantaine isn't working (look at the cruise-ship) that people get released but later need to be quarantined again, that the longest incubation period has been 24 days, that some people never show symptoms at all. And suddenly your government wants to place a group out of Wuhan in your neighbourhood and release them after 14 days....

Who here would think this is a good idea for their own neighbourhood?

In the meanwhile South-Korea doubled the amount of confirmed infections to over 200 in the last 24 hours, and the Diamond Princess already has over 600 infections confirmed showing that the quarantine has failed, yet the Japanese government has just started releasing people from the ship with hundreds at the same time...

Re: Coronavirus

It’s weird how the markets have barely moved. China have basically not been working for 6 weeks, it seems impossible to me to have the worlds second largest economy down tools for so long without there being a profound economic impact world wide.
