As I stated in one of my earlier posts, there are meter Mollies doing their rounds in Zurich, there is a vast workforce currently sitting at home, thumb wrestling each other, just waiting to get back to work. If the government were half-way organized like people generally assume it were, then we wouldn't have had so many infected people. But when one assumes. . .
I parked in a private spot of a hair salon the other day in Thun. Big sign in window saying closed until April 30. Whole street deserted, all other shops closed too, nobody around. CHF 40- parking ticket.

You can take corona out of the Swiss but you cannot take the Swiss out of corona.

I arrived from Newark/New York a week ago to Zurich on a packed flight. I was not tested or asked any questions. Now NY is the hotspot of the world, and I would have thought someone from government would contact me to make sure I'm staying home. Nope.

It's not that hard to figure out who arrived via airplanes in the last few weeks and track them down...is it??
It's not hard at all. I read an article about how South Korea managed to track everyone who was infected and their "contacts" and it seems SF for our poor Europe, in spite of some people here believing they're rich and great and dandy. It really makes a fool of all of us. In our defence, they had a relatively recent experience with other epidemics. When it started, same as the Japonese, they knew they have to take it very seriously.

Edit> for the German speakers of EF, there is a good article in Neue Zurcher Zeitung, read it if you can

I would expect the numbers to grow in the US given the large population there and they/the US have run more tests than other country. More tests equals more infections. I would focus more on mortality rates. Both Switzerland and the US are quite low presently and that assumes the given rate of those tested. In my view, there are many whom are asymptomatic and if so, those mortality rates are much lower.

Who knows what to think until they develop an antibody test and administer it widely? All else is conjecture until the CDC and WHO have this data. Let's hope that is sooner than later.
I’m reminded of an old science fiction short story where the virus that was killing just about everyone was being caused by the vaccine developed by the mad scientist. So maybe testing kits are to blame.

A traffic warden in UK English. Those quasi ‘police’ people who go round putting parking tickets on cars.

Municipalities still need money. Look at the bright side of things, someone was still doing their job.

I am always very careful to follow any stupid rule even in the most absurd and unlikely-to-be-caught situations because I really hate to give some people any satisfaction....lol
I think I will become Swiss one day. Not on paper only, for real.

As you are on your travels, and apparently have been since a while, can I ask you why you deleted my post(s) around 3 weeks ago (am in Switzerland, and speak the languages) where I informed non-German/French speaking EF members of what was happening? Your moderator comment for the Mod deletion was “You know why”.
Sorry, but you are mistaken. When I deleted a post 3 weeks ago I sent you a detailed private message with an explanation. That particular post wasn't informing anyone of anything but instead a massive rant about how much EF sucks.

If you ever have a question about moderation, you're welcome to contact the mod in question.

Rather than de-railing this thread, I can send you a detailed list of deletions if you wish. Let me know via PM if you'd like me to do that.

Mr Wishes said he read an article that the Swiss authorities have been doing some tracking via cell phone data, and that's how they can tell where some of the outbreaks started.

Maybe they checked my phone and saw I haven't left the house except once, and figure I'm behaving.

Only if you have allowed that in your settings (so far....). Just log in with your provider and at the data settings you can see how they can use your data.

Re: Coronavirus

Confidential report: City of Zurich expects lockdown by the end of summer
Switzerland is in a state of emergency and according to the «NZZ am Sonntag» (article subject to a charge) this should last longer than April 19. The newspaper relies on information from the Federal Council meeting. Even after April 19, a gradual easing of the measures can be targeted, it said.

In a confidential situation bulletin from Tuesday, from which “SonntagsBlick” quotes, Protection & Rescue Zurich also made a forecast. The “most likely development of the situation” is therefore that the pandemic cannot be contained sufficiently. Therefore, the measures would have to be tightened and “massively extended” - beyond the summer holidays.

Re: information contradictions over COV19?

Quote:

I'd like to ask someone with medical know-how to please clarify the following two points which seem like a contradiction in the information given to the public:

1. Only go to the Hospital in "grave" condition i.e. high fever, shortness of breath, call first and don't simply show up. This makes a lot of sense, however I've also seen some doctors recommending to treat the disease early before it's too late because when it's too late there is little they can do ... aren't these two contradictory?

2. When someone gets the virus and experience only mild symptoms develops antibodies i.e. becomes immune to the virus. Then doctors also say that depends not only on whether you are exposed but also how much exposure you had to the virus (e.g. someone coughs directly on you streaming and making you inhale 3k contaminated droplets) and your body becomes overwhelmed to fight back, and thus you may get a severe infection. Again another contradiction or? if you become immune by any exposure level then it should not matter how much exposure you get or? This theory of little vs. a lot of exposure may explain why some doctors despite being young die ... but I see a bit of a contradiction here or?

Anyways I didn't want to call the Hospital and bother them with my silly questions ... maybe there is someone here who knows and can help. As I see it, we've all had it or will have it at some point, it's just a matter of time and the measures are just there not to overwhelm the health system out of capacity.

you posed good questions, which got lost in the noise here. I think some others have better answers. I am reposting so others can see this again

(but FWIW, call you local doctor first, call don't turn up at the hospital as you correctly stated above .
our procedure here in singapore is always call designated public health clinics, they will advise you what to do next. most likely if you only have mild symptoms and have not travelled overseas in the past 14 day then you should self isolate at home. if your symptoms worsen, contact your local GP - they will advise whether to escalate to hospital or need an ambulance to pick you up etc.)

When you find a series that starts out as "must watch TV" and then by mid way through Season 2 it becomes unwatchable. This is what this and other similar threads have become. It would be great to have one thread that is ONLY for information and not be taken over by bored key boards warriors failing badly in their attempts to prove how intellectually superior they are. (A few names spring to mind although some posters can be relied upon to provide helpful information)

Simple DIY masks could help flatten COVID19 curve. It's time to start wearing them!

I know most people in the West don't like the idea of wearing masks but please read this.

On March 18, the Czech Republic (Czechia) made wearing a face mask or other mouth-covering apparel compulsory when in public. If someone has COVID19 and doesn't know it, wearing a mask reduces the chance that they'll give it to someone else.

Today, The Czech Republic (Pop 10.65M) has 2,663 COVID19 cases and11 deaths. Switzerland (pop 8.57M) has 14,076 COVID19 cases and 264 deaths.

"Your mask protects me, my mask protects you" is the slogan of the Masks 4 All campaign that is spreading across the world.

Since you're stuck indoors, now's a good time to make your own mask to wear when you go to the grocery store or pharmacy. It's to protect other people in case you have COVID19.

Questions? I'll post some helpful links in the comment section.
