Due to the Federal Government‘s preparations for a Covid-19 onslaught, it ordered all non-urgent hospital treatment to be delayed.

The result? „ Many hospitals and clinics in Switzerland are currently half empty.“ and putting medical staff on short time working! „The beds are empty, some of the employees are at home.“

Yes.
Extracts from
https://youtu.be/oL-_1V1so3M
Swiss Federal Council, Press Conference 04.04.2020
Daniel Koch, Delegierter des BAG für COVID-19

A journalist quoted a statistic that, at the moment, throughout Switzerland, about 2/3 of hospital beds are empty, because all non-urgent operations have been stopped. This must mean that many hospital staff members are not needed. Why, then, are they not being put to use for medical matters, instead of the army having called up 4000 or 5000 soldiers?

Herr Koch replied that it makes sense that the beds are free. This is so that the hospitals can react very quickly, if need be. That’s what happened in the Tessin and in West Switzerland, when the number of Covid-19 patients rose very suddenly. In the meantime, the staff can’t be sent around the country, which would not only be a logistical nightmare, but would risk new infections.

Herr Koch called upon the population to take other illnesses seriously. They have had disturbing reports from Children’s Hospitals that children are being brought to hospital - for other matters - too late, because the parents are afraid about Covid-19. Please ensure that the children, and for that matter all other people with real medical needs, to get to see their doctor or get to hospital as needed.

We have to walk our dogs daily and a recurring problem is that many joggers and cyclists do not give us enough distance. Yesterday one jogger running from behind actually brushed against me.

Must be a crapload of plastic surgeries if hospitals are half empty and staff bored or pretty much unemployed (Kurzarbeit).

Re: Coronavirus

Like many people, I am very reluctant to go anywhere near a doctor's office or hospital.

I am supposed to receive injections every 3 months which must be given by a doctor. The specialist recommended I postpone the injection due in mid April. The question is going to be when will it be safe to have this?

Yesterday, Greece extended their lockdown to 27 April. They've largely taken the French approach where you need a form stating why you need to leave your home.

Just been speaking to OH's brother there. He says police and army are patrolling the streets and one guy who refused to go home was arrested for giving backchat to the police. Instead of people seeing the police action as being heavy handed, everyone's saying he was a malaka because they would rather keep all the yiayias and papous safe.

Edit: Yesterday, Spain's lockdown was extended until 26 April.

That's the thing, mild cases who aren't tested and stay home might have a tough time to distinguish allergies (polen now) causing burning sensation with sinus troubles and loss of smell and taste from Covid19. We will know more when testing is more available.

Re: Coronavirus

At a local beauty spot nearby, Creux-du-Van - they have had 100s of cars from all over Switzerland, ZH, GE; FR, VD, LZ - and also France + 100s coming by train- for the last few days. Some with large groups. The walk around the circle is very narrow- limestone wall on one side, precipice the other - so absolutely impossible to distance yourself from others.

Shopping aisles in Supermarkets as regards people distancing

Have any of the supermarkets been spacing out the width between aisles in your local supermarket ?
because none of the supermarkets I've entered have widened the space between these aisles,
to facilitate people distancing.
Meaning many people will not wait patiently at the entrance to these aisles, in order to wait for someone
to leave the aisle before venturing down the aisle themselves and passing other people in the aisle
at less than the 2 meters social distancing.

You could at least put in a small explanation (the main points.) I have no interest in reading through an otherwise boring report for neurologists

Yes, but a spaced out Swiss is still rather narrow.

..... when you watch a movie and see actors shake hands or hug and you think wtf?! That's when you start wondering if you'll ever go back to normal.
