We now have the results of 27,846 cases (2628 dead and 25218 recovered) which is a substantial number so I would be surprised if the final ratio of dead to recovered is a lot different from this. Assuming the virus does not significantly mutate or a new cure is not found.
The problem is that all these stats are based on reported cases. There are many who have only mild reactions to the virus and others who are/were ill at home but do not want to go to hospital, or who feel they don't need to go to hospital or report it...

From what I’ve seen, Singapore seems to be very aware of their situation while managing to effectively contain and treat. The level of detail in their updates is impressive and I hope Switzerland will have equal information flow if necessary.

https://www.moh.gov.sg/news-highligh...tion-confirmed

OTOH, if the situation there starts to deteriorate, it will not be a good sign.
Singapore has been very quick to act and essentially has put the city on hold & watch.

From very early on ANY traveler that arrived from China was put on a mandatory Leave of Absence and checked upon for maintaining it. This was even before flights to and from China were blocked.

All workers that were in China are currently only allowed back if a special permit has been requested - Singapore is trying to let them in little at a time to manage the inflow (there was over 30'000 due to the Chinese New Year).

Temperature is screened constantly multiple times a day, in EVERY building you enter (be it your office, a mall, another office) AND your details (including phone and last numbers of your IC recorded). Essentially you are permanently tracked. (On top of the usual tracking that is done anyway).

Yes, this means the spread slowed down considerably. However, it requires a draconian government effort, a compliant population a certain disregard for privacy. Likely justified in the current situation but hard to implement in a different cultural context.

Or in the cases of many of the countries in SEA, don't have the money or means to visit a doctor

Woah.
I admit, I'm finding it a bit difficult to know where the line is drawn, exactly, between being paranoid and being "wisely cautious" and well-prepared. With being so close now, in Italy, I'm beginning to lean more toward the latter.
70,000 workers cross the border every day into Tessin

But I think CH is simply too sterile for a Virus to survive here. It would die of boredom!

And families spend quality time together?

Cmon. It is as positive as insurence companies not paying out sick leaves due to "coronavirus natural disaster"..The insurance policies are about the change for good, something tells me.

?? Where did you hear that? In what country?

Apart from that, my employer pays for the first weeks, only after 6 weeks (I think) insurance kicks in.

One doesn't have to be a math modelling genius to see the possible risks. And those math modelling geniuses have been busy. Policies work on calculated potential risks and predictions.

If CZ gets into pandemics (and it is relatively unsolicited area, except the capital city), 3 million people will be in bed. On top of reg flu and other joys. Employers or ins. companies cannot pay it.

No gondolas around here.

Most do it by car, and rather than the usual bumper to bumper slowly crawling north (opposite to my direction of travel), it was not much more than in my direction, 120kph+ no problem.

Re: Coronavirus

I went to Jumbo last night I walked by the aisle of woodworking tools. A woman was staring at dust masks intended for woodworking. I was looking for sandpaper and white glue. When I passed by her, she turned with a gesture of disgust in her face, grabbed 2 or 3 packs of masks and left in a rush.....there's indeed a bit of paranoia out there.

Re: Coronavirus

When I was reading the news yesterday about long queues for masks in South Korea, I reminded myself that we have got stock of some 100 pcs at home. I got them from my previous company many years ago in outbreak of SARS just in case when traveling. We never used them before and yesterday we thought how lucky we were to have them. Hopefully, we will never need to use them.

Coronavirus: Why did infections shoot up in South Korea? https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-51609840

Re: Coronavirus

Two news items from the UK. Make of them what you will.

'Coronavirus warning: Travellers from lockdown zones in Italy must self-isolate'
https://news.sky.com/story/coronavir...olate-11942709

'Coronavirus: Tourists at Tenerife hotel 'tested for coronavirus' as case confirmed in Adeje '
https://news.sky.com/story/coronavir...adeje-11942764

A silly thing crossed my mind this morning when I was doing the washing. As many of us in Switzerland have shared laundry facilities, how could this affect the spread of a virus?

Yes. Paranoia. It simply reveals the " dark side" of people. They would kill over masks etc if they were forced to. SAD!

Re: Coronavirus

its flu like, masks will do bugger all, how many time do people need to be told that?? I'm sure standing 10 deep in a queue a km long is a good way to stop the spread, Darwin in action.

Do you wear gloves when opening the front door of your apartment complex or touch anything else in the general areas?
