I know you were.
It is a bit irrelevant, tbh. If it is true, it probably means good stats with not that many scary diagnoses here.

Germany ~4230/ Mio/ week
Switzerland ~4670/Mio/ week

Just a 10% difference. Same order of magnitude.

Past testing is not interesting. Anyone which tested negative in the past could test positve today.
This. Reminds me soft sciences surveys.

Massive testing might also be a way to coax population into cooperation and discipline. And if you are to enter your office building and every day there is a thermometer aiming at your forehead and possible denial of entry, makes people damn prudent in their life to not catch anything. Not even ovulate, I bet.

I'd stay home for some longer if such thermometer would hang there, false sense of safety is all it creates.

And these smokers still just throw their cigarettes on the ground at every tram and bus stop. They are really disgusting
Also in the forest at forest sitting places. They are full egotists

I am not sure. S. Korea tracks, measures temps at multiple places during your day, it always generates messages you get on your cell, if anything it creates sense of accute danger.

Yes, sorry if I wasn't clear. I think instead of continuing to ramp up only initial testing there needs to be a push towards antibody testing as well.
Antibody tests seem to take longer. At least one is being tested since about last week, but of course there can be no guarantees that it will pass the test.

Breaking news: Boris Johnson is in intensive care. He's only 55 and I don't know if he has any preexisting conditions.

Google merely says "in hospital but in good spirits", as recent as an hour ago.

Edit - ah there is an update now indeed.

Re: Coronavirus

Edit for Samaire - turn on BBC News TV. They are reporting Johnson in intensive care and saying that Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab is being deputized. The BBC website has not been updated with any info yet though.

Edit again: Up on BBC with minimal info: https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-52192604

Also being picked up by the Guardian and ITV

The UK - most of it - is very aware how bad the situation is.

Worse now Raab is Deputised. Christ.

I don't follow UK politics that closely. Is he worse than Gove? That's the other name I saw tossed about in the last few days as someone who could take over.

Google told me today that the UK doesn't actually have a succession plan in the law, which seems a bit crazy.

So my reactions are hopping back and forth on a range from "extremely cynical" to just plain "normal/neutral".

I'm still deciding which one to post if any I think I'll wait this one out.

Re: Coronavirus

It's interesting that I read a report on the much-ridiculed Zerohedge last week (Friday I think) that he wasn't doing well (referencing a couple of twitter posts from various people).

I then checked the BBC and there was nothing. Then, he's moved to the hospital on Sunday(?) and now he's in the ICU....
Who'd have thought that he'd beat Theresa May at the shortest stint (in recent times at least) in Number 10?
Here is an interesting interview with a pulmonologist who is recovering from a cytokine storm:

https://www.salon.com/2020/04/05/wha...ytokine-storm/

And then you really have to give a shout to the Contagion script writers.
There's a scene where they bury bodies in a mass grave in the frozen Central Park.

Cue this article from the NY Post that reveals that authorities will begin "temporary internment" in parks (no specifics):

Labour has an elected Deputy, I think, Cons do not. Raab has the next most senior post
Raab and Gove, to my mind, are equally duplicitous and self-servingly dangerous. But they are who we have. We have to hope that pulling together as leadership trumps political point scoring in this very scary time.

I hope Johnson is developing a healthy appreciation for what miracles the underfunded, understaffed, overworked NHS perform on a daily basis.

The UK has a parliamentary system, not a presidential, MPs choose the prime minister, and the prime minister can delegate authority to act on his behalf as he sees fit. Raab is towards the right of the Conservative party on economic issues and hes a firm brexiteer, but hes relatively socially liberal. Gove is a soft brexiteer, and is a little more centrist on economic issues, again socially liberal.

Anyway... good luck Boris. St. Thomas's is a fantastic hospital, he couldn't be in better hands. I'd be praying if I was religious.

Hes lost a decent amount of weight recently. If his BMI is over 30, itll only just be so. Hes not huge.

In China you get your temperature measured in MacDonalds at the cashier if you want to grab a meal to eat at the table. And each table has only one chair.
Taking temperature is one of many measures which together work to bring R0 to below 1. By itself it's not enough of course.
