Worldometer for Switzerland has this site as a source: https://interactif.tdg.ch/2020/covid-19-carte-suisse/

It says on 8th April: 727 new cases, 74 died
Worldometer 8th April: 1027 new cases, 74 died

Where did these 300 new cases come from?
I don't know, do you see me walking about in a white lab coat?

I can only assume, that one of the French speaking cantons didn't have their fax machine properly plugged in and that the cleaning lady senior ecological hygiene support staff nudged the plug when going by with the swiffer, which then sent off the remaining 300 faxes in the lineup.

Especially if they need to travel by public transport to get to us.
Then we anyway pay them as responsible employers, and clean up our own homes while we are anyway ‚working from home’ and not ‚in the office“

Re: Coronavirus

If this research is really indicative of the real world then it further complicates finding a solution for the coronavirus and leans towards medication rather than vaccination.
Quote:
A team from Fudan University in China analysed blood from 175 patients discharged from the Shanghai Public Health Clinical Centre and found that nearly a third had surprisingly few antibodies.

In 10 patients, antibodies could not be detected at all, which could also place them at greater risk of a secondary infection, the researchers warned.

Had a long phone call with my brother in the UK today. Something that surprised me is that a mutual friend who has Chron's, has received a second letter today advising her to go into lockdown for 12 weeks. I've checked this with 3 other friends who have to do the same and all 3 received a 2nd letter today. They're all confused because the implication is that the 2 weeks begins afresh now, and until now, none of them have been able to confirm this officially.

Whether 12 weeks or 14, if immuno-compromised, staying in is worth it. They can probably get clarification by calling their GP surgery.

The UK is taking this virus very seriously. Obviously there are forkwits who think the rules don't apply, but you get those everywhere, even in Switzerland, and there are increasing sanctions in place for those caught. The sense of community, of help, support - cameraderie, I suppose - online and in social media groups, face time, houseparty apps, is reassuring.

I'd say it obviously means 12 weeks from 2 weeks ago as there's been no announcement about this being extended to 14 weeks. If they've received another letter after 2 weeks, that sounds like either an error, or a reminder to start. Being asked to start afresh makes no sense. If that was the intended advice, the letter would make it clear that this is an extension.

I think I read that some folk were ommitted from the list first time around, probably a second shot at getting the info to all.

Well, and we're back to close to 1'000 newly infected people.
That's an error.

Check the "source" link for today's update, says 727 new cases for the 8th.

It is not an error, it is a different method of counting. Worldometer counts how many cases got confirmed today by Swiss cantonal authorities regardless of the reference lab which is their higher number, Swiss federal government only counts them as today if they have been confirmed by Geneva today.

How often does this have to be explained in this topic?

Worldometer has been scraping data from four different websites, with different counting methodologies i.e. BAG, TDG, Corona-data, some Github project.
Yesterday, the number they scraped from TDG was higher than the number reported by TDG this morning for 08.04.2020. Either they scraped the wrong data, or TDG changed their numbers by 300 people overnight.

My brother in law received the same and clarified with his GP.
It is just a reminder and refers to the original 12 weeks, they haven’t added on an extra two weeks.

I don't see the point in these speculations. Every single country in Europe, in fact the world, has taken different approaches at different times, based on circumstances and medical advice. With hindsight, for every country, we will be able to identify actions that turned out to be very beneficial, and very damaging. Not one single country, or government, on this planet wants this problem to endure, and everyone's doing the best they possibly can in a situation where frankly, no one knows exactly the best way of behaving.

When I look at Die Welt, or Le Monde, or NY Times, or ask my Swiss/Spanish/Italian friends how things are going, they ALL complain about the actions of their government, and 'if only we'd done X a week earlier, or not done X at that moment'. The truth is that until there's a vaccine, or a very reliable way to screen those who've already had the virus, we're all in the dark a bit, and living on hope and luck as much as good judgement.

As for the UK, who knows? There was a report out yesterday saying that the UK would come out worst in Europe, but the report authors themselves, when challenged, admitted later that the data they used for their analysis and estimates was inaccurate, and their extrapolations were shown to be faulty. Doesn't mean that the UK won't turn out to be worst but it's yet another illustration of everyone and his dog having a go at predicting the course of the pandemic based on 25% facts, 25% prejudice, 25% sticking a finger in the air, and 25% examining the tea leaves.
Why not? We've already had 300+ pages of speculation, what's wrong with a few more? UK posted nearly 1000 deaths yesterday, and the UK I expect will soon come out top in Europe. I'm not blaming anyone for it, just stating an opinion.
