Cheap is relative. They make more cash probably than those EE doctors at home who are busy taking in ICU patients from neighboring countries.

Some EE borders were shut tighter than that, hence the flattening curve. But then, people will not have cash to feed themselves, not even on overpriced imported German organic asparagus.

The UK is taking this virus very seriously. Obviously there are forkwits who think the rules don't apply, but you get those everywhere...
Totally. I see them here, particularly last Sunday, and hear about them in the UK too.

My brother usually walks 2 miles down the canal path from his house into town and usually only sees 2 or 3 other people. He's not been able to do that since the lockdown because the path is far too busy. When he was on the phone yesterday, he could count over 40 people on the 50 meter stretch of the path visible from his house.

One friend sent a video this morning showing how the queue for Greggs is far longer than the queues for all the banks combined. Typical! Only in Wigan would people queue for an hour to get a pie. Also found out that the reason our tenant hasn't claimed the offered rent holiday is that the hotel where she is assistant manager, is being used to house 25 homeless people and NHS staff who need to isolate from their families. Thankfully, the hotel is big enough to house them in separate wings.

Here, I'm wondering if the police are going to close the main road outside our house except for emergency vehicles. It's been mentioned as a possibility and they've been actively checking the number plates of traffic passing along it. We shall see...

They'll be queuing for a loooooong time - Greggs has been shut since 24 March.

well now even in your ling it says 785 new cases, and growing. just wait, it'll get closer to 1000.

doesn't matter the exact figure anyway, it is clearly a jump and certainly no sign of winding down as of yet (contrary to what you wrote a couple of days ago)
The 785 figure is from today and was published 20 minutes after I wrote my post.

I know the wave is coming, for one month now

Re: Coronavirus

Is it any wonder I dispair? We're supposed to be the smartest species on the planet. Could have fooled me.

"Greater Manchester Police has warned people not to breach lockdown rules over Easter after it had to break up 660 parties last weekend.

Chief Constable Ian Hopkins said "each and every one of us need take this seriously".

There were 1,132 coronavirus-related breaches reported between Saturday and Tuesday, the force said.

That included 494 house parties - some with DJs, fireworks and bouncy castles - and 166 street parties.

One woman in Bury became the first person in Greater Manchester to be charged under the Coronavirus Act 2020 after police had to repeatedly shut down one of the parties.

The force also had to deal with 122 different groups gathering to play sports, 173 more gatherings in parks and 112 incidents of anti-social behaviour and public disorder."

https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-manchester-52221688

"Police have made two arrests after two men were seen on CCTV licking their hands and wiping them over vegetables, meat and fridge handles in a supermarket.

The men walked into the Sainsbury's store in Lancaster Road, Morecambe, on Saturday afternoon.

Staff were forced to thoroughly disinfect the store and destroy products, Lancashire Police said.

https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-lancashire-52227363
Insp James Martin described the incident as "flabbergasting"."

Once again, but this time on a more personal note, the Swiss Federal Council appeals to everyone to Just Stay At Home over the Easter weekend.

Who's "you".

Makes no sense to take the name of the quoted out of quotes. Why do you do that? Not the first time I notice it.

Sorry, I laughed at the message from the Ticino guy : don't visit us this weekend, later is better or something like that.

Yes another study this time funded by the French government has published that the mortality rate of covid-19 is not different compared to other common colds etc

https://www.sciencedirect.com/scienc...24857920300972

Findings are very similar like the study done from Wuhan China

Re: Coronavirus

Yesterday afternoon one of our neighbours had at least 5 other kids playing with her 4 and they had all joined up into a group with other kids living in our development and were running amok around our shared pathways and communal areas. This would have irritated me normally but infuriated me under the current circumstances.

I persuaded my son, who had just arrived home from his hospital duties, and was still in his Army uniform to go out and have a quiet word with them and the miscreant mother. It worked a treat! All is quiet today. That has been the best thing to come out of his military service! He is being marched off again at the crack of dawn tomorrow so sadly it will have to be a one off trick.

Good luck to him...I will clap my hands for him at 9pm being grateful.

I would ask you to loan him over for some uniform effect (educational, no worries), but can imagine that you, guys, are far and he is happy to not move.

Yes, they announced yesterday that it’s extended until at least the 26th of April.
They will discuss next Wednesday what will happen after that, it has been suggested that there will be a gradual relaxing of measures.

Written on 4th March when there were less than 4,000 deaths and the epidemics in Europe were all at a very early stage. Completely overtaken by events and they would not reach the same conclusion now.
