Re: Coronavirus

Heres how to wash your hands. Especially important after a visit to the infamous Zurich WC

Please note. Its not a Zurich WC in the video.

When I was reading the news yesterday about long queues for masks in South Korea, I reminded myself that we have got stock of some 100 pcs at home. I got them from my previous company many years ago in outbreak of SARS just in case when traveling. We never used them before and yesterday we thought how lucky we were to have them. Hopefully, we will never need to use them.

Coronavirus: Why did infections shoot up in South Korea? https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-51609840
That is 17 years ago, are you sure those masks are still usable?

SRF1 gets it the next day. At the moment they are broadcasting "Clinik under Palm Trees!"

We still have the huge stash of the state.

I'd hate to be without coffee for a long term.

Why wouldn't they be?

The fact remains, though, that masks such as those are only intended to stop an infected person contaminating their immediate surroundings via droplets from coughing or breathing.

They don't really protect the wearer at all, and those governments issuing them to the public are really only doing so to be seen to be doing something...

The difference between this and a US press conference is remarkable. It’s quite restrained and orderly.

Who are the people asking questions?

Could be useful if a family member gets it and has to stay at home along with the rest of the family.

Re: Coronavirus

From the press conference if I got that right:

- no closing of borders as of yet
- situation normal for the time being
- new case may or may not be patient zero depending on who he may have infected
- travel to Northern Italy is ok but you have to check that whatever town your visiting isn't under quarantine

But my German isn't as good as it used to be, hopefully one of you has a better lowdown on this.

Also the Ticino authorities will be holding a press conference later today (the second in two days!)

Journalists, and it's surprising how few are present.

Yep correct.

And closing the borders would almost be symbolic, go 100 meters to the left or right and you can completely unnoticed go through the forest. Same reason why the lock-up of the small Italian region is not working. (read an article about a guy who just walked outside to another town to get pasta because the store in his locked up town was sold out :P )

A friend of mine teaches at an International school in your neck of the woods- and they had the visit of a large delegation from China 10 days ago ...
she was furious and so were most of the staff.

Actually, those masks were distributed about 12 years ago so not exactly on the date of outset for SARS’s outbreak but they were meant to serve its purpose in the future, just in case of another emergency. Masks do not really expire.

I have never used them anyway but I saw people in public who had. Just in belief that it can protect one, but like with any contagious diseases, when there is pandemic, this sort of precaution can do very little IMO.
