Re: Coronavirus

When you've got millions of infections, anything that can happen, probably will. (Million to one chances crop up, nine times out of ten). So it's entirely possible that one or two people will get the virus, recover, and then get reinfected. It's only a concern if it's more than a small percentage.

Re: Coronavirus

For the first time, the Federal Office of Public Health recognizes that the peak of the first wave is behind us

We went from 1,300 positive cases at the height of the crisis to 254th Tuesday. Which makes Patrick Mathys, head of the Crisis Management and International Collaboration section at the Federal Office of Public Health say

"Can you tell us clearly if Switzerland is past the peak of the epidemic?" Tac au tac response: “No, we cannot say it clearly. But personally, yes, I think we are past the peak of the epidemic. "

https://www.24heures.ch/suisse/pense...story/19034746

In the meantime, how effective lock down measures are we can see clearly from the following example:

Belgium, 26 days of lock down, 11.5M population, 32k infected, 4100 dead
Sweden, 0 days of lock down, 10.5M population, 11k infected, 1050 dead

Be a pretty boring forum if the fringe views were not allowed.

Don't forget the vocal minority on EF are generally wrong on the big topics, despite the noise and shouting down that takes place.
Trump election: wrong.
Brexit referendum: wrong.
Corbyn for PM: wrong.
Boris for PM: wrong.
Next Trump election: I'd chance my arm and say wrong.

Looks to me like everyone who posts carries the same weight, forum legend or not.
It's not a view if one keeps being proven of telling lies and twisting the facts to fit a certain narrative.

That's trolling.

Regardless, the popular opinion of the forum has been consistently wrong, plenty of very highly paid Champagne Socialists it partly responsible.

Here is one article I read https://www.iflscience.com/health-an...n-south-korea/

Although to be fair it points also towards people also having a "relapse" and it is not yet certain if they were reinfected. However, no immunity has yet been proven.
Indeed, and is therefore quite a long way away from what you said, that reinfections had now been confirmed. Got me worried, for a mo.

Ahh, I see you've now gone back and edited the previous post for clarity.

Still, I prefer to err on the side of caution.
Well yes, but there's nothing to suggest that this virus behaves differently from all the other related ones, and it's nearly always the case that exposure and recovery leads to immunity, so it's a little bit pessemistic, not to say alarmist, to assume that reinfection is possible. It's possibly possible, but no real evidence for it, and it's extremely unlikely from a purely medical/scientific perspective.

Who cares what the popular opinion is, everyone is entitled to his/her own opinion.

Oh and I said Boris would be PM and deliver Brexit, I've said the referendum would be won by brexiteers, I've said that Trump would win the election, I've been saying in January that we needed to put up restrictions or this thing would run out of hand. I'll say that if Biden is the best the democrats can come up with that Trump will win again, and I've proven V over and over again of telling lies and telling lies has nothing to do with sharing an opinion.

Denmark began reopening schools on Wednesday after a month-long closure over the novel coronavirus, becoming the first country in Europe to do so.

Lying? No, not really, just passing on a couple of 'fake news' stories, not really the same thing at all.

Sweden closed highschools and unies. So they will have to reopen them, eventually.

Denmark is reopening only nurseries, daycares and primary schools.

Re: Coronavirus

It would be worth pondering is Sweden is under lockdown or not.

High schools and universities moved to online courses. Most of people that are able to work from home are doing it. I have colleagues over there and they're at home. Before the virus they did ~30-40% of weekly hours from home, they just stayed at home.

Non work related visits to hospitals and elderly care centers are banned.

There's a recommendation to avoid unnecessary travel inside and outside Sweden and they are following it. Try flying to Stockholm, even if the Arlanda airport is open there a very few flights. Swiss has 1 flight every 3 days. Not possible to fly to any warm island in Spain directly from Sweden. Cruise ships trips have been cancelled.

It seems the differences amount to:
  • Events with more than 500 people are cancelled, here the limit is 5.
  • They keep the schools open for children
  • bars, restaurant and non food & drinks shops are open
  • there are no cruise ships making port calls in CH
The lockdown concept seems meaningless, at best vague, unless the restrictions are analyzed.

Well they've already said numbers are so good that they will reopen faster than intended. So for me it's just a matter of time how quick other countries will follow their approach.

There is a legitimate worry in the CZ crisis team (Chief infectolog/virologist voiced it cca 3wks ago, I posted it probably 10 pages back I think) that mild infection (only up to a duration of 7 days) or asymptomatic infection will not assure that the patient will be sick enough to develop enough antibodies. They really talk of reinfection being possible.
