The healthcare system is coping because of the lockdown.
It's more than coping because there are over 2000 empty ICU beds as the peak infection is reached. Which is why I think it's time to start reopening the country.

Can you imagine the rate of infections in CH if it wasn't for the lockdown? Even so, being one week late was pretty bad.

Honestly you sound like Trump a few weeks ago. How on earth that doesn't amount for trolling is beyond me.
I don't think there is a serious case for not initially locking down Switzerland as the cases rose from nowhere very quickly - a bit like Italy.

The '82 isn't the most expensive Dom Perignon https://www.wine-searcher.com/find/d...ne+france/1982

Unless you go for an older vintage, I think 1982 is the most expensive. Possibly confusing as '82 is for a bottle & later years are for 6/12 bottles.

Yes Yellow Label, but not what you linked For those who are having trouble https://www.ocado.com/products/veuve...ut-nv-18703011

Wait a min....

Switzerland population = 8.57 million, covid19 death = 900 up today, deaths per million ~ 105 death per million

Sweden population = 10.23 million, covid19 deaths up today = 1033, deaths per million ~ 101 death per million

Today the death rate is practically the same in SE and CH.
Greece population = 10.72 million, covid 19 deaths = 101, deaths per million ~ 10
lockdown began 23 March.

Do you know which winery makes Dom Pérignon?
I thought they were a Vineyard, rather than a winery. D.P. was a gift from Champagne Mercier to Moët in 1927 for a wedding between the two families.

You have an incredible amount of insight for someone who only joined this forum in December 2019. Which is your favourite champagne?
I joined EF in 2006, so by that logic, I must be a genius.

And what I can tell is: this very important thread has degraded into irrelevant and childish bickering...

I think it was very generous of you to serve it on your wedding. I have simple tastes (well...it depends) but I appreciate when people make an effort, sometimes a bit misguided/too much/not really necessary imho but still an effort.
My late uncle once won Gold and Silver at a county show with his home brewed wines. The gold winner had a secret ingredient of leftover crystalised fruit, was fermented with the demijohn standing in my aunt's Clairol foot spa to keep the temperature stable, and stored in his 10yr old daughter's east facing bedroom, all of which he proudly announced to the stunned wine critic judges.

Well that's where you went wrong, then. Moët & Chandon is a winery that owns thousands of acres of vineyards. One of their labels is Dom Pérignon.

The company Moët & Chandon no longer exists since its merger with Hennessy (as in cognac) and Louis Vuitton (as in garish luggage that regularly gets knocked off by Chinese fakers) to become LVMH.

I just saw your edit: "D.P. was a gift from Champagne Mercier to Moët in 1927 for a wedding between the two families." Mercier gave the brand, but the champagne has always been made by Moët & Chandon.

The question is now is what do the epidemiologists see as the least damaging way to achieve either a) herd immunity, and/or b) keep the cases low in the long term without destroying the economy.

I want to see an plan devised by experts that does not rely on a vaccine.

OK, it's almost 500 chf then. I'm a simpleton and in my simple mind I always make this sort of calculation: with that amount I can buy 10 bottles of really, really good wine.

It was a lot less than that 30 years ago when I drank it. Bear in Mind a flight from Zurich to London Friday night returning Sunday night would have cost 500-700 CHF at the time. Air travel prices will undoubtedly be higher than they were 3 months ago, Easy Jet has saved us a fortune, making national carriers charge less.

Hey lovely fellow expats.
Sincere apologies if this has been discussed at length before. I have done a search but there is a lot a chatter about Sweden, Champagne and Trolls so I'm getting lost

Is there an expected date for another conference for the BAG to give an update on existing measures?

I thought it might have been today but all seems very quiet. The last update I think the was the 08.04

Tomorrow 16.04 there should be a press conference from the CH Bundesrat to announce the plan to lift the restrictions: shops, schools, bars, gyms, etc.

I'm a vodka gal. Expect no finery about this from me After dating a wine buyer (about 19yrs ago) and having a wine buyer for a neighbour, (both of whom refused to use the term 'vintage') what little I thought I knew about fermented grape juice was seriously put to shame. I just go into Paul Ullrich, give them my money and ask for help if buying for others, or buy a pretty bottle of Chardonnay from Coop for myself. My only exceptions are 'Seerose' Claris Cuvée Blanche which is the definition of local wine and utterly, utterly yummy. https://www.vivino.com/seerose-clari...nche/w/6129913 and a certain 'green' wine on Crete that get's you dreamily merry without any trace of a hangover the day after.

I agree, it was mix intelligent ministeps. The population is patient, trust their leadership and ready to reopen, I think. Hope the numbers don't spike again.

a) Herd immunity is not an option as it would only come into play if an effective vaccine is developed and the uptake is high enough and the virus does not behave like the flu viruses. The infection rate is not high enough in the general population to reach general immunity levels and the social and economic costs of a herd immunity policy without a vaccine are toooo high.

b) this is the option being pursued by countries all over the world. Each country has its own set of circumstances which mean there will not be one single solution.

c) I prefer Freixeneit to that old-fashioned, overpriced french stuff
