Keep an eye on your cardiac rhythm, we don't want to lose an other EF'er.
Yes. I'm just trembling here from the excitement of it all!

Poor old grandad...

President Donald Trump told reporters that “we’re very close to a vaccine” while answering questions about the COVID-19 outbreak during a state visit to India.
The White House later said Trump was referring to the Ebola vaccine— not the coronavirus.

Should get some more viewers.. seems China is handling the virus with much more sanity than the Western or Japanese counterparts (where it's either "super panic" or "do nothing".. which both are wrong imho)

Actually I got a whole lot of those masks. I wonder, do they help with hayfever-like problems? (I'm new to this problem )
What helps with that is cutting your hair very short and wash it with water under the sink when you get to the office and in the evening when you get home (if you don't want to shower anyway).
And using saline solution to clean your nose.

As for the virus - I don't know if this has been posted before:

This looks very useful.

You can only treat the symptoms, not the disease itself, so paracetamol for fever and/or general aches, a decongestant like sudafed for blocked up nose if you need it, various anti-tussif syrups for dry or wet coughs...

But there's nothing really much better available on prescription either. Tamiflu and various other antivirals are effective in reducing the length of a flu infection, but only if you start using them as soon as you have any symptoms, which isn't often possible unless you see your doctor immediately you start with the sniffles. I do have some in the bathroom cabinet from when Roche issued it to all travelling employees in the bird flu outbreak, but if I used it every time I had a cold starting it would a) all have gone years ago and b) have had no effect whatsoever.

Best for flu is to get an annual vaccination jab, for colds there's sweet FA you can do. Ideas about massive vitamin C intake have been debunked years ago, as have pretty much any other supplement-type remedies.

Will start wearing them on trains. I know somebody will say it's not that effective (not covering the eyes etc...) but I rather protect myself a little bit...
The doctor who writes in Private Eye points out that more people are likely to die from falling down stairs, than from Covid-19. Wearing a mask will restrict your vision to some extent, and therefore heighten the risk of taking a tumble.

Wow! First clue YuropFlyer, your linked article is written by a Chinese author. Having lived in Singapore for 10+ years, why would anyone trust this author? The fact that he/she works for the American Institute in Chinese Studies somehow legitimizes them? I think not and even the publisher notes that the author's views are not a reflection of the publications's views. Hmmm...

Did you actually read this article? It read to me like articles put out by the Soviet Union back in the 80s. I was a Russian major with a minor in international relations back in the day and this reads like political propaganda.

More importantly, do you really subscribe to this view?

by the way, this might be another thing I'm prepared to be laughed at, buttons, tram door buttons, train door buttons, lift buttons, they don't get disinfected from time to time, I'm gonna bring a used-up ball pen, take the cap off, press those buttons, put the cap back on and get on-off trains...

because rubbing your hands with hand-disinfections dry up your hands, kills as well the good bacterias and makes u easier infected, i heard...

lol your post makes me laugh. i have become the expert in elbow olympics (as you know there are so many lift/ high rises here)

Yeah we all have statistics about you're more likely to be hurt doing this or that. Funny how all those pop up just when an epidemic starts. I wonder how many people in Wuhan fell down stairs whilst infected?

Actually, those masks were distributed about 12 years ago so not exactly on the date of outset for SARS’s outbreak but they were meant to serve its purpose in the future, just in case of another emergency. Masks do not really expire.

I have never used them anyway but I saw people in public who had. Just in belief that it can protect one, but like with any contagious diseases, when there is pandemic, this sort of precaution can do very little IMO.
Actually, there is expire date for mouth masks, reason being the longer a respirator has been in storage, the less likely it is to perform at its full potential. Over time, components such as the strap and nosefoam may degrade, which can affect the quality of the fit and seal.
https://workersafety.3m.com/why-do-d...ed-shelf-life/

But it sounds like the reason is more concerning with the fit, not it's ability to stop the particles. So as long as you seal it with tapes it will be good as new

FFP2 masks and above can protect you from the virus, hopefully thats the one they gave you.

Well done to St2Leman: Ticino gets the first case of Corona Virus in Switzerland when normally, when something goes shitty, we get the trophy in Geneva! Happy to leave you this one!

The only logical course of action now to save the rest of Switzerland is to close the Gotthard tunnel.

Goodbye Tom, and good luck.
