| | Re: Coronavirus | Quote: | | | | | It's not that the argument for lockdown loses weight, it's that the case for universal testing of the entire population gains even more traction. Even so, the caveat is how long does immunity last, and we won't know that for a good while. Personally, I'd be absolutely overjoyed to have a test that confirms we've both had a very mild version of the virus and now have 2yrs of immunity to it. Who wouldn't! | | | | | All this talk of immunity passports and those that have been tested positive & proved to have survived
the virus & therefore assumed to be safe from reinfestion becoming 'a new class of citizen' in the post
lockdown world; when we all emerge into 'the new normal' for however long it takes before a vaccine
or an inoculation against the virus is perfected.
Will Restaurants and bars become divided between immunity passport customers and non immunitity
passport customers; like we had smoking and non smoking areas in bars & restaurants of the past
as well as 1st, 2nd and 3rd class carriages back in the days of steam trains.
On planes - will 'immunity passport passengers' enjoy Business class travel with few restrictions
while those who've never had the virus, have to travel in people distancing sections of the aircraft,
complete with masks, gloves and stewardesses disinfecting everything they touch, with the byword
being 'bring your own sandwiches' ? Or even go so far as to have 'immunity passport' flights
and 'non immunity passport' flights.
Then when you arrive at your destination will there be Immunity Passport Hotels and Non Immunity
Passport Hotels and maybe even going so far as having Immunity passport beaches and
non Immunity passport beaches ?

And the touristic sector is commercial and not some humanity foundation for equal rights, if there is demand for passport-only hotels the sector will respond with making such hotels, just like one can book in hotels that forbid Russian or English tourists.

| | Re: Coronavirus
One of the big concerns regarding 'Immunity passports' is that there will be many people who will try and get infected so they can get the passport - and so reap the benefits outlined above of having one.
This could cause another wave of infections.
If and when a vaccine is developed, I can definitely see it as a requirement for entry into some (or most countries) in a similar way as the Yellow fever immunisation is, or used to be for many South American countries.

There is no purpose for such a passport.

1.1 million people have recovered so far. That's 0.01% of the world population. Unless it would drastically change, I think that's a segment too small for separate planes, hotels and restaurants.

the virus, in so much as they don't have to completely alter their whole restaurants, bars, trains, buses or planes.
When you have 'immunity passport' sections of restaurants, bars, train carriages, planes & hotels.
Also with no viable cure in sight, the number of people infected by the virus and have survived the virus
with ( hopefully ) having been tested thoughout these stages, means those that become immune
will steadly rise in the world. Meaning more people becoming eligible for immunity passports.
Although the great unknown will be how long, months, years, two years or more ?? we will have
to live in the 'new normal' environment.
But it will not go down well with families unless they have all gone down with the virus & survived.
By doing this the world could be slipping back to the 1920/30/40 & 50's class ridden society but determined
by immunity passports from the virus.
Many scientists have said that we cannot hide from the virus forever and that we will all be
infected by it eventually, although hopefully a cure or an inoculation will be found before
it gets too serious.

The second day where Worldometers reports no Swiss deaths.
Strange Swedish numbers, 10 deaths yesterday, and 90 today; I have little confidence in these numbers.

| | Re: Coronavirus | Quote: | | | | | | | | | | Full of anomalies this mask business!
Walking the dogs this morning when the local doctor drove past wearing a mask, but only covering his mouth, not his nose.
Also wonder how this works in restaurants; can you buy masks with a meal slot. Or maybe with built-in straw and have all meals liquidised?

Another thing would be that such passes only give a guarantee that somebody had anti-bodies on a certain date in the past rendering them useless unless they are ment to avoid quarantine and must not be older than some weeks. In which case they are not much more or less than a standard test result paper.

Here something better for Switzerland, which also state where the number actually come from. https://www.corona-data.ch/ | Quote: | | | | | Strange Swedish numbers, 10 deaths yesterday, and 90 today; I have little confidence in these numbers. | | | | | Suprise, suprise. Less work is done on weekends. If you use Worldometers then you can clearly see that in the Swedish numbers. You can even tell when Easter was.

Worldwide. | | | | | Its not common to find a 65 year old in an elderly peoples home. Unless of course they have no one and need full nursing help

Now I see you speak for all of mankind, nice of you to elevate yourself to that height. | | | | | would be better: Its said about 6 or 7 diff coronaviruses that made it to humans, of 3 we know that immunity lasts only 1 to 2 yrs, of the others like Covid-19 we have no clue yet.

Strange Swedish numbers, 10 deaths yesterday, and 90 today; I have little confidence in these numbers. | | | | | Looks like a weekly pattern, like the Swiss. Though the Swedish is a bit less obvious (numbers rise Monday to Friday, then fall back down for the weekend). The 7-day rolling sum or average may be more useful here.

Therefore deaths over the weekend are "processed" until next Monday. Albeit a 7 day average, as Urs May suggested may mask a current up/down trend.

Since last week I've been in a good mood because a lot of things will reopen next Monday 11th of May:
schools: my wife will leave the house and go to work
bars:
gyms: I've been riding my bike a lot, but I miss the sauna
family reunification visas for Switzerland: not affected by this one but it's great news for other EFers https://www.bag.admin.ch/bag/en/home...wFKQksCqORmrak
time to forget about the no lockdown Sweden with higher deaths per million than here. We'll also have no lockdown next week and a lot less dead, what's not to like?
