Those were my thoughts too. MC's friend obviously has psychological problems with respect to food.

I'm not sure whether it was an error in writing but does her friend actually 'inhale' the aroma of food she likes -sniff a Mars bar for 45 mins, perhaps or does she set a timer for 45 minutes and then stuff her face with Haagen Dazs?

Either way, she probably needs professional help - or lessons in cookery if she finds healthy food so unappealing.

SRF article about which European countries we, in CH, can visit. I don't know about you lot, but I could really do with a week in Portugal right now.

Re: Coronavirus

Spain just published the first results of the seroprevalence study performed on 36.000 people statistically representative of the population. Results range from just above 10% for the most affected areas (absolute maximum 14.2%, Madrid 11.3%) and values below 3% in the least affected areas (minimum 1.4%)

In Spanish: https://www.rtve.es/noticias/2020051.../2013992.shtml, I have not yet found the official report.

Actually, it looks like SRF are wrong. They show NL as being a country where entry is allowed with no quarantine. But this photo of a letter handed out to passengers from a flight from Zürich to Schiphol this week from the NL govt says visitors have to self quarantine for 2 weeks.

EDIT, photo won't upload. But trust me, I've read it a few times as my GF lives in NL and I haven't seen her in over 2 weeks, and I'm getting a bit shaky.

And hasn't the UK said it is also implementing quarantine from Friday?

Ok, Portugal it is!

I won't trust you on this one

Something must have gone wrong with that picture or the text that came with it, passengers from whatever Swiss airport to Schiphol do not need to go into self-quarantine. Only Geneva and Vaud knew such rule but EASA has taken them of the list of high-risk area's, Zürich never has been on the high-risk list.

Link:

https://www.rijksoverheid.nl/onderwe...zen-buitenland. (Dutch)

As short as possible translation from the part we need.

"Declaration of health and 2 weeks quarantine only apply to passengers arriving from airports marked as being in high-risk areas"

And here the list of high risk airports in Europe:

https://www.easa.europa.eu/SD-2020-01/Airports

SRF is correct.

Can confirm Grumpy that there is no quarantine requirement in NL coming from Zurich. As Edwin said, ZRH is not listed and friends flew there a couple of days ago without any problem. Enjoy your stay!

I'm relieved my mom can visit us soon (according to the map), but I wouldn't like her to do such a thing. She has diabetes and is not young anymore. We'll have our vacation in July anyway.
Frankly, no destination looks very tempting to me for the time being. And we'll drive in July. My revenge for the ridiculously high fares we always had to pay for 2 hours flights. How do you like me now....not a loyal customer here.

Just read that Germany will reopen their borders next month as well as the 14 day quarantine for travelers from the EU:

+1 - my friends' parents plus my Dutch friend both flew there in the last week, independently of each other. No quarantine.

Also had a colleague (Brit) who flew to London and another who flew to Poland, both at some point in late March or early April (would need to ask exact dates). Neither had to quarantine.

One would assume the virus is incapable of identifying nationality and that quarantine would either apply to everyone or no one, but anyway, who knows these days.

All a bit weird.

I, on the other hand, had to turn around on my way to a village near Schaffhausen as I failed to realize that the road I took up from Bülach - which was already plan B - would lead me through Germany. For a tiny portion of a few kms after which you re-enter Switzerland again, mind you, but yeah, so the extra 45mins detour was totally logical and reasonable.

Granted, I'm really digging a trip to Portugal now....

Average TV/streaming watching statistics around the world indicate a lot of free time to buy and cook food at home.

Coming from a poor place, I can tell processed foods and fast food are marketed by producers and perceived by consumers as "luxuries". Only the poorest of the poor drink water from the faucet, the not so poor drink Coke to differentiate themselves from the bottom...

Well while we wait for the Scientists and laboratories around the world to come up with a Vacine or an Inoculation
against the Virus; its time to hit back at the Coronavirus and where better than with this specially adapted game
from the 1980's using the Atari 2600.

Zapping the Coronavirus like those pesky Space Invaders of the 1980's

For the more travelled ones here: does anyone have any idea of how the airlines will respect the new rules in regards to "social distancing" and hygiene?

Hygiene probably all, social distancing on board not on Swiss afaik. No free middle seat on Swiss and LH I was told by an email from LH.

Maybe like this

(and I wouldn't even care as long as I can travel again - anyone ever been in Business Class on BA? You do fly backwards there too. Odd).

Thanks, roegner. So yeah, I won't let my mom come visit us. She'd have to fly with Swiss. They don't use Airbuses on this route, like Tarom used to, and the plane was always crowded and seats uncomfortable and too close to each other when we travelled, expensive as well. Mean staff too. We'll drive in July to see family.
There was a time when we used CzechAirlines when we could, for some reason it doesn't fit any of our travel needs anymore.

I just spoke to a representative from Swiss Air yesterday regarding info on flights back to the US. I was told that everyone must wear a mask during the flight and that their staff would wear also gloves. Also, not all seats would be in use to comply with distancing measures.

A friend recently traveled back from the US and said hand sanitizers were passed out at the beginning of the flight (she flew with KLM).

Rear facing seats could be lighter and packed closer together as the main forces are forward in the event of a crash, problem is that people don't like facing backwards due to comfort and general unease. The discomfort being during take off you would be pushed against the seat belt.

Re: Coronavirus

I don't see why you couldn't simply have the plastic screen between seats (and ideally, something moveable so that an adult can interact with their children). Maybe the distance is sufficient, but in that concept the guy sitting backwards is facing the two side passengers from the row behind
