Re: Coronavirus

Sweden (government and health officials) are saying:
We ( )ucked up because we didn't tuck up our old people.

Actually admitting you got it wrong and trying to put it right with the benefit of hindsight. Only bit that is missing is admitting that that their reasoning (e.g. herd immunity) was fatally flawed from the outset. It will be interesting to see how they react to the next pandemic which may not have the same age profile

Still, a mature response and they do take their scientists seriously

Where are BoJo and the UK at the moment? Apologies? Cummings has more say than the scientists. Still pursuing non existent test, track and isolate schemes?

Well, another victim of the virus and those millenials always looking at their phones: cash

Covid-19 strains Swiss love affair with cash - Fewer people are making cash withdrawals at ATMs. PostFinance told the Neue Zürcher Zeitung newspaper that withdrawals fell by nearly 50% between March 16 (when the Swiss lockdown began) and mid-April.

I noticed this myself, I've only taken out cash once in the last 2.5 months.

Re: Coronavirus

My tiny Migros has installed an automatic red-light system - it bleeps rather aggressively at you when it turns red. Just red and green, no yellow

Such an investment looks like it's here to stay?
Strangely enough I've been to several bigger shops this week which had nothing like this.

I was in Glattzentrum and kept hearing bleeps and little sirens, I thought shoplifting had suddenly gotten out of hand. Then I saw traffic light systems on a lot of the stores, especially those with multiple entries. One less job needed, they seem to have replaced the door sitters on the counting app.

The COOP at Unterentfelden also installed it. I hope it stays. Coincidentally, the number of people allowed to be at the same time to comply with current restrictions is about the same number of people that allow to have a relaxed shopping experience

Guess that also has to do that we can go to less places, where we usually use cash. In my case that's definitely so.

Well, unless you are English, you won't enjoy queuing up outside though.

Even before the virus we avoided the COOP if the parking was full above half capacity. People squeezing between you and your partner because they can't wait while you grab the same thing as you was not nice at all.

So, drive by the COOP, look at the parking, if too full do something else instead......file under 1st world problems

Yes, the mistake they made like so many others, is that Sweden allowed the virus to enter care homes and hospitals. Note Mr Tegnell at no point said Sweden should have gone into full lockdown.
Stopping the virus entering care homes and hospitals is easier said than done.
Such establishments have almost as many staff as patients who enter and leave daily and can infect patients, especially if they are asymptomatic.

It might be more practical to implement now because there are better and quicker tests available although probably not yet in sufficient quantities.

I saw that biz peeps would be exempt, but I'm unsure if people who travel for visitation would be as well, not sure who to ring to ask.

According to the Guardian:

All international arrivals into the UK, including returning British residents, will be required to self-isolate for 14 days.

People who live outside the UK but work in the UK and travel between their country of residence and the UK at least once a week
You’ll need to provide your journey and contact details. You will not need to self-isolate for 14 days.

You’ll need to show evidence that you reside in one country but work in the other and you should also be able to demonstrate that you travel between the two on a minimum of a weekly basis, for example, a season ticket.

See there is a loophole for people who travel for work, so if it's for visitation perhaps it's the same, hence why I'm curious where to find out.

Well, if you want to claim going there for work, it says you have to show proof of that. I´d imagine that this excludes visits.

For the similar situation between Switzerland and Germany, employers could issue a so called commuter permit (not a G permit) stating that the employee works in Switzerland and needs to travel to Germany for work.
