CNN had an interesting chart on their coronavirus town hall yesterday:

"On the top, in Europe, you see cases rising, peaking and falling.
On the bottom, in the US, you see them stuck in a plateau of sorts and starting to rise from there."
i guess you need to look state by state. https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/...-us-cases.html

Re: Coronavirus

For all who work from home as they are in a high risk group, unless your employer agrees to allow you to continue to work from home, you have to get back to the office.

It’s maybe dangerous to make such sweeping posts based only on Swiss boulevard press.

In my company, a large Swiss Bank, there are from now strict regulations in place for returning to presence work from home office. And they are very strict, concerning requiring permission, severely reduced office capacity, social distancing, presence cycling, travel to and from the office etc.

Employees also have to acknowledge their agreement to adhering to these guidelines.

I do not see this as a sweeping generalisation, it says that the Bundesrat has decided that employers should decide about home office. So if your employer decides to stop that, you have to come back to the office.

Yes, I see that. I also follow 20mins for first hand news.

But I don’t see that it helps to just make other boulevard type press headlines (especially in German on an English speaking site).

Re: Coronavirus

Changing the demanded distance from 2m to 1.5m seems silly. What could be the reasoning? Corona has aged and can't jump as far anymore?

Press release in English:

https://www.admin.ch/gov/en/start/do...-id-79522.html

Section on telecommuting:

Quote:
Recommendation to work from home lifted

The decision as to whether staff should work from home or return to the office is now one for employers. The recommendation to work from home is to be lifted, as are the guidelines on protecting people at especially high risk. These individuals may also return to the workplace, however the employer is required protect the health of staff by putting in place appropriate measures. Employment legislation applies. The simplified basic rules also apply to trade and industry, as well as to service businesses not accessible to the public. No sets of precautionary measures are required.

Swedish numbers still look like an anomaly compared to the lock downed Switzerland. 4 weeks later, Swiss numbers are actually worse.

Switzerland - 116 deaths per 1M population
Sweden - 86 deaths per 1M population

Switzerland - 2836 infected per 1M population
Sweden - 959 infected per 1M population

For weeks people have been saying "wait until next week"

How many more weeks should we wait?
Now
Switzerland - 226 deaths per 1M population
Sweden - 500 deaths per 1M population

Switzerland - 3,608 infected per 1M population
Sweden - 5,550 infected per 1M population

Where did you get these figures from, and when?

Asking as t’s like comparing the famous “R” rate, which doesn’t mean much at the moment in Switzerland as the infection rate is too low to calculate it.

I was tested on Monday for both the virus and antibodies. Both tests were negative.

As I felt sick most of January, I was kind of hoping that the antibody test would be positive but this was obviously some other virus.
I do not think you can conclude this. You could have caught corona and shaken it off (low viral load, wrong receptors -blood group, etc, lots of reasons, some unknown) without producing the required antibodies to be identified in the test (unlikely, but it could also be a false negative). In any case the test for virus particles would now be negative and the antibody test negative. But it would not necessarily mean you would shake off a second infection, so maybe the conclusion is the same for you.

R0 in Switzerland is now above 1 again so I think we need to wait and see before getting too excited about the lack of a second wave.
The Swiss don't appear to be too fussed about it considering the large easing of restrictions today. Now get back to work you slovenly lot!

Easing restrictions does not mean the pandemic is over, it simply means they now have room for you in the ICU.

I think you’ll find that the term is pretty widely used, across several languages. My comment was in response to a post by a user whos opinions I usually place high value on given their personal background, as well as past EF history.

This thread needs overhauling, because it is misleading and absolute rubbish.

Long enough to know that it is not a term used in English sentences.

Asking as t’s like comparing the famous “R” rate, which doesn’t mean much at the moment in Switzerland as the infection rate is too low to calculate it.
The coronavirus infections and deaths figures came from the US John Hopkins University who are a leading information source on coronavirus infections and deaths.

I did not quote any R rate but if you interested then look here;
Quote:
On June 17th, Professor Matthias Egger, the President of the Research Council and head of the Covid-19 Task Force, told SRF that Switzerland’s r-rate had again risen above 1.

On the evening of Wednesday, June 17th, the official r-rate was at 1.1 in Switzerland.
Please feel free to call Professor Matthias Egger to tell him he is working with insufficient data
