BAG is reporting a change of 134 from the previous day, so that would be similar numbers but not double.

Not all cantons showing yet today on my usual source, but so far 81 new cases reported by 17 cantons. There are 4 new hospitalizations so far, 2 in ZH and 2 in VD. BS and SH each released one person from hospital.

If you want to look at trends, the BAG publishes a weekly report, most recent was on 1 July:

Re: Coronavirus

The canton of VAUD has announced today that masks are now required in all stores that allow more than 10 people in them (think grocery stores etc.).

This mesure goes into effect as of next WEDNESDAY, July 8th.

If ever, Aldi has some of the cheapest of the "cheap and cheerful" masks in 50 packs.

The order doesn't apply to children under 10, grownups who are exercising, eating, or drinking.

All of a sudden Texans take hours to finish their sandwiches and sodas, days even, and nobody knows why ...

Anyway digging deeper

The Republican Party of Texas will hold their state convention in-person with an expected attendance in the thousands, as the state is seeing record numbers of new daily coronavirus cases and increased hospitalizations.

The party's executive committee on Thursday night passed a resolution, 40-20, in support of moving forward with its in-person convention in Houston.
The convention will be held indoors at the George R. Brown Convention Center in downtown Houston from July 16-18. Committee meetings will begin on July 13.

We have disposables, but we're going to get some non-disposables. Better comfort and since all of this might last a while probably cheaper in the long-run.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if the canton of Zurich is soon to follow. Zurich currently has many more new infections than the canton of Vaud.

Zurich: 317 new cases since June 1st
Vaud: 135 new cases since June 1st

I'm still using the cloth masks a kind EF member made for me, they're brilliant. They're way more comfortable for breathing (for me anyway), and fit better too. I have disposables too, on the off chance that both cloth ones are in the wash.

We also have a population which is almost twice the size, so the difference is not that huge.

But yeah, I expect others to follow soon if the numbers don't go down rapidly.

I'll have a look on Monday if the local creative center also makes and sells them, we have a sewing machine but hey "support your locals"

Re: Coronavirus

I actually did come across some re-usable / washable masks being sold in the Müller Reformhaus store (in Volketswil) a few weeks ago.
https://reformhaus.ch/content/home/index_ger.html

They were sold in packs of three and came in two different sizes -- one for adults and one for kids/teens. I did buy one pack in the kids' size, and they seem to be well-sewn and it also held up okay in the wash. The kids' size fits my 8-year old perfectly. The only 'problem' is that the patterns are more girl-oriented (lots of pink, etc.). But the adult ones were more gender neutral -- grays and blue.

Anyways, just thought I'd mention that if they're still being sold there and if anyone was looking to find some washable ones. Müller also has a lot of disposable masks at the moment.

I wonder what the criteria was. It's surprising that Mexico is not included, when the outbreak there is so severe. Also why not the UAE, but every other Gulf State? In general, my feeling was that the Gulf States had such high cases because they go all out on testing - their death rates are really quite low.
I think its more about politics now, not health
