Agree with some of the rest and have increasing question marks plus a whole bunch of possible conclusions by now, but I guess I'm just wearing that tinfoil hat and a decent level of suspicion is not desired.

| | Re: Coronavirus | Quote: | | | | | I thought people could only have a certain amount of chemo, twice a month for possibly 14 years, are you sure? | | | | | That applies more to radiation. You can only have a certain exposure over time. I had a lumpectomy and radiation. If that cancer returns, I may not be able to have additional radiation in that breast because I’ve had near the maximum.
With chemo, while you can achieve toxic levels, stuff doesn’t stay in the body always, and there are lots of different kinds of chemo. People with metastatic disease often have chemo for the rest of their lives.

From Johns Hopkins University
Yesterday, the US reported 60,021 new confirmed cases and 1,195 deaths.
Trump's tweets about falling US death rate now look pathetic unless this death report (four times yesterday) is an exception, not a trend.
Anyway, with 60,000 daily cases Trump's ignoring of the pandemic will one day be so widely remembered as "Nero fiddling while Rome burned".

Meanwhile, forty-three Florida hospital intensive care units (ICUs) across 21 counties have reached capacity as coronavirus cases in the Sunshine State surge, according to new data from the Agency for Health Administration.
I am sure they have a plan B. | | | | | Why are you giddy at the thought of overrun ICUs?
(Ironic considering you are the one citing 'karma' wrt Bolsonaro.)

Hi, everyone. Haven't posted in a while but still monitoring the situation in Switzerland. In regards to the nightmare in the US and the fact that someone posted that Americans are born to be free thinkers, um, no.
We were raised to believe in 3 basic tenets: life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. It is literally woven into our DNA. It is YOUR life, YOUR freedom and YOUR right to do whatever it takes to make you happy.
Community, common good, common sense, respect for others, personal responsibility, etc. all take a back seat.
Americans are not "free thinkers". I wish. Sure, there are a few, in San Francisco and Portland and Asheville. Americans are "me thinkers". They want to make the most money, pay the least taxes and will not do one single thing that they don't want do. They will chose to DIE before they will follow some government rules that they do not believe in.
When this first started in France in the beginning of March, I sent a private message on FB to my kids and grandkids who are all American. I told them that a shit show was coming their way and they had better be prepared. I KNEW that their country was absolutely incapable of being told what to do and that it would become a massacre. Luckily, they listened to dear old Mom and they are all fine. They don't go anywhere and they probably all hate me for ruining their life, but they are still alive.
Unless you are American, you cannot understand the absolute dichotomies by which they live. It is a failed state. It is a country fueled by hatred and anger. It makes me cry to watch it, but they brought it on themselves.

I still wish the US would lead the world with the ideas of liberty and democracy held high. What I am seeing though, probably since 2009, is a mind-boggling, self-inflicted and self-fulfilling downward-spiral mess. This so called administration is the biggest disaster ever for America, and the only winners here are China and Russia. Amazing that this poodle Koeppel is still praising Trump for holding up the values of the US constitution.

| | Re: Coronavirus | Quote: | | | | | Many were discharged from hospitals into care homes without coronavirus tests. This was done to make space for an influx of patients that never materialised. At the same time patients with the virus were sent to care homes where it was spread to those most at risk. There’s enough evidence to see that this happened, the only open question is how many unnecessary deaths and infections this disastrous strategy caused. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/h...-a9544671.html | | | | | That link does not proof your statement that such indications exist.

The USA has a failing health system
The USA has failing infrastructure
The USA has a failing political system
No wishful thinking can change the realities
In November the Americans have a chance to start putting things right.

They have the choice between two great-grandfathers - oh and maybe a tv-reality show star.
Who ever they chose, the two parties will spend 95% of it's time/effort on bashing each other, leaves little time to correct above mentioned problems.
Even if they get the perfect president candidate out of the blue - and actually vote them in - the entire system seems in need of reinvention.

| | Re: Coronavirus | Quote: | | | | | | | | | | UK has an excess of deaths which one can blame - at least partially - on the delay of the lockdown measures. Italy was in lockdown after the virus was already circulating there for a while. Don't know what to say about this article. It seems is missing some qualitative analysis.
I am not a "fan" of lockdown - is there anyone really, however, I am convinced it was a necessary measure, albeit painful from many points of view - socially, economically. You keep calling people here all sorts of names trying to diminish them or their opinions, but this says more about you than about them/us.

| | Re: Coronavirus | Quote: | | | | | | | | | | I find this a weak analysis. It completely misses the angle of timing of the lockdowns.
In any event, this pro/con lockdown discussion is misleading. Even without legal measures to slow the virus spread, people do their thing and just stop going out etc when they feel unsafe. So this narrative of "lockdowns did not help but only destroyed the economy" is false in my view. In Sweden where restaurants stayed open, they still had a 75% revenue collapse (vs. Denmark's 80% where they were closed except for take out).

That's the remit of the woke brigade on here.
