Sort of confirms how infectious is this disease when they have so much difficulty tracing the origin.

Now we will have to wait and see if this and the California case leads to clusters of sick people

There's some Italians sitting just behind me in the Migros restaurant. They are gesticulating wildly. What should I do? Sit and keep calm? Take pics?

This article is pretty transparent and informative regarding stats, but still has the number at 14.

If they are shouting and gesticulating wildly you don't have to worry, everithing is fine. If they are quiet and do not behave as Italians then run because there is something wrong.

I thought that everyone knew

I will definitely be avoiding public transport as much as I can for a couple of months. I'm not worried about me getting COV but I am worried about catching it and then transmitting it to others.

I imagine that soon that those of us who work for busy offices with busy canteens will soon be doing home office for a while too.
I'm also less worried about myself and more concerned about transmitting to others if I come into contact with the virus. Unfortunately I can't work from home and I have to travel to the States soon to care for a sick relative. That's my biggest concern, making sure I don't go to help only to make things worse!

I think the numbers fluctuate because they're coming from different offices. It seems only those confirmed with a second test that's been processed in Geneva "count" in the official stats.

I wondered where the feds came up with 1,000. Seems random, and not necessarily any better than 50. I imagine there are more than 1,000 people in the Zurich main station at any given time.

Yesterday the tram was packed - at least 100 people crammed on it. The time from end-to-end is about 40 minutes, with people entering and leaving regularly.

What makes an event more special than an everyday situation? People are potentially together for a longer time?

i think it is still early days, so maybe 1000 was just a number. Why Chur chose 50 ppl also not known. Here in SG,school events with max. 30 students only are allowed.

As to your trip to the States, I think just follow the guidelines given in both countries and the airport/ airline regulations. Things do change quite fast so would keep checking up until your flight date.

Re: Coronavirus

I just passed by a coop bau n hobby, they have this carnival situation with popcorn stand, wall climbing, kind of thing, more than 100 kids n adults (not good at eye-balling, but, a lot of people), eating cotton candy by hand, touching everywhere, if only one of them is infected that might be a problem.

I was wearing a mask and when people saw me they backed off a meter away, good for me, really.

When SG first had the CoV, alot of people panicked and wore masks. They also bought out all the stocks of masks in the shops, which led to an insufficient amount for the sick, front line medical workers, older folk.

Now a month later, only a few people wear masks and when we see someone wearing one we assume they are fending off a cold/cough etc. (A mask is only needed when you are have respiratory symptons such as a cough/cold)
Hence the reaction of your example above. They probably thought you were just ill and backed off.

Masks are for carnevale and halloween.

They are useless against viruses.

Also the reason we've cancelled plans to visit OH's 90yr old mum next weekend, but if she got sick, we'd be there in a flash no matter the consequences. It's a bloody difficult balancing act when it comes to elderly or ill family, particularly for people whose elderly parents live with them.

I could be completely wrong on this, but I think it's because certain gatherings are entirely avoidable or unnecessary under the circumstances and some aren't. There's a list here, but I expect many of the events still taking place, to be cancelled soon, particularly the Stormzy gig at X-tra (2k capacity) which is sold out. https://www.en24.news/s/2020/02/20-m...ona-virus.html
