Interesting statistics. I wonder if the treatment regimes are getting better, one would hope so.
Switzerland was using 'Trumps wonder drug' however stopped for a few weeks & deaths sharply increased. Medical opinion changed a couple of times, it turns out Trump was right.

Swissmedic initially said, basically, "we don't know, but we're reasonably certain that hydroxychloroquine does no harm in this application even though it hasn't been tested for this. Hospitals, use at your own discretion" until the study (co-authored by a professor employed by Uni Zürich) was published.

After the study had been published in The Lancet, peer review demonstrated that the underlying data were unusable, and the study was retracted. So was the "Stop!" by Swissmedic.

This is simply how science works. The multi-layer approach makes errors unlikely, but not impossible.

I absolutely agree there. No offense meant. To be fair though, the US is so big that most Americans haven't seen and don't believe the bodies are actually piling up. As I tell my conservative/libertarian family members, "you won't give a damn until the problem reaches your front doorstep". And of course by then it'll be too late.
Many States in the US stopped their lockdown too soon and, as expected, the number of daily new cases increased rapidly.
But now the number of daily new cases has levelled off and seems to be declining, albeit still at a high level, for no obvious reason.

Are you referring to Remdesevir? And what does Trump have to do with this?

Definitely does NOT mean Trump was right. We're back to HCQ "does no harm". All reports of its being effective against COVID-19 are anecdotal at best, and include "in combination with other drugs". There's no evidence HCQ cures coronavirus. And don't forget, there was a short supply of it in the beginning when Trump made reckless claims, and people who needed it for legitimate purposes suddenly couldn't get it. My mother was one of them. Trump was as far from being right as he usually is.

OK, if your statement is about HCQ then I give up and hope you have been able to acquire the Putin vaccine on top of HCQ to be 100% safe.

Thank you! That's extremely interesting. I guess that supports the idea that we should not be too hasty in reimposing lockdown measures. Vulnerable people are looking after themselves.

I guess we can trust people after all.
There are many people who have become seriously ill and/or who have died from the coronavirus who never had preexisting illnesses, etc. Not too long ago, a 7-year old died in the US and he was considered to be perfectly healthy prior to contracting the virus. And that's just one example.

https://apnews.com/f3eb213921622d9d9697c15822eb5966

So my point is that someone can be vulnerable but not even know it.

This isn't a virus that is only badly affecting old people or people with preexisting conditions. Not to mention the fact that simply having high blood pressure makes someone more susceptible, and that equates to an estimated 26% of the world's adult population.

You're welcome

Once the numbers among the young are high enough there's probably no way to keep the virus from finding its way up the age pyramid. It may be happening already, but remain under the radar because the absolute numbers are so low yet - you know, exponential growth and all that jazz.

A new report led by King’s and published by the government's Committee on the Medical Effects of Air Pollutants (COMEAP) estimates that between 28,000 and 36,000 people die as a result of air pollution every year in the UK. This is a significant increase on their 2015 figure of about 29,000.

Thank you for this very relevant information.
Air pollution, itself mainly the result of burning fossil fuels, is linked to deaths due to pulmonary problems. Covid mortality is increased in patients with prior pulmonary issues.
Sky Australia was right, those lefties are connecting Covid issues with global warming issues..... darn, maybe the lefties are right after-all?

In theory there should be a dramatic decrease in air pollution this year due to the effects of lockdown.
It will be very interesting to see if that is reflected in the mortality figures.

Zurich airport signed yesterday an agreement to share passenger data with several cantons for a better enforcement of the 10 day quarantine.

Where does the UK fit into all these restrictions btw? Because it doesn't appear in this list

https://www.admin.ch/opc/en/classifi...ndex.html#app1

nor this one.

https://www.bag.admin.ch/bag/en/home...tml#1918240392

Nor is it part of Schengen. Or are the Schengen rules extended to the UK?

I only has a quick scan, but it is in the first list as high risk as non-Schengen and not an exception. Ireland is in there which is also non-Schengen but an exception.

It's not in the second newer list so I'm as confused as you are.
