Keep in mind that Mondays will look like a spike, as the BAG no longer reports on Sat/Sun. But I agree, this thing is out there and it's not going to magically disappear any time soon.
I am referring to rate of positive tests, not absolute count. That measure used to be 3-4 percent. Now at 6.

"Over the past two weeks, Switzerland has counted 62.9 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants. This figure thus goes back above the bar of 60 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants, the threshold set by Switzerland which justifies quarantine for people arriving from such countries."

That's what I reckon.. For a while people were being tested at the drop of a hat, some because they had to for work, travel etc .. but some (I know) just because they had a sneeze or two..

Now people are probably over that and just going out of necessity ..

The nasal swab isn't a lot of fun. I wouldn't go for a test if I didn't think it highly advisable.

People are not being tested, they mostly ask for a test when showing symptoms or having had contact to someone positive. What a ludicrous argument.

And if you don't have the symptoms on the official list, you have to pay CHF 250- for a test, at least that's what I was told by ETH test centre a couple of months ago.

I know drivers in the film industry that are being tested weekly. Greatly depends who you are & what you do with whom.

Maybe I have a blind spot there. Don't know anyone in the film industry, not even drivers.

The problem with the number of infections per 100,000 inhabitants, is that you can manipulate this number with the number of test performed. Meaning, the more you test, the more positives you will find.

What is relevant is the % of positive tests.
For example, in the 3 last days: 25 762 test were performed, of which 1548 were positive. Which is 6.01% of positives!!!!
Which is a real increase since the end of September (30.9: 3.27%, 1.10: 4.44%, 2.10: 4.84%, 5.10: 6.01%)!!

Strange. In Triemli it costs 137 CHF and in Unispital it is 169. 250 seems quite high.

Interesting (and long) piece on the "asymmetric" spread of Covid and how backward contact tracing to identify superspreading clusters can be more effective than one-by-one forward tracing.

COVID-19 seems to have an affinity for the top US echelons.
Quote:
The top leaders of all the US military services are under quarantine after the Coast Guard's No. 2 officer tested positive for Covid-19 on Monday, according to administration officials.

The Joint Chiefs of Staff includes the chairman, vice chairman, and the four-star heads of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, National Guard and Space Force.

The White House is being very secretive about the names of the latest people with positive tests which makes it impossible for other people to know if they were contacts and so take appropriate steps. It really is a soap opera but with deadly consequences.

Deadly or not, but how the f can the Joint Chief of Staff not hold their f-ing meetings via video like most office workers who do not command the most powerful military on the planet? One would have thought they have better protocols in place.

Putin is laughing his isolated butt off.

And not at all surprising.

I'm honestly past giving a damn. I'm going to grab the popcorn and count the ambulances I hear from the window again. If my neighbours don't care about protecting the vulnerable, I really don't care if they die after being stupid.

Yikes. Is that number of 700 really just for one day?

It's starting to get to that point where I'm nervous about sending my son to activities. He belongs to a kids' organization that is run by teenagers, and all the teenagers went to a camp together this week. Now my son is supposed to meet back up with that group in a week or so, and I'm nervous about the teenagers potentially getting the virus at the camp -- having to sleep in the same tents, etc. -- and then passing it on the kids. They canceled the Halloween party due to COVID, so why then would they send all the teenagers together on a camp and then have those teenagers come home to then be in close contact with the kids? It doesn't make sense.

Re: Coronavirus

Last night I took the bus at 20:00 and it had 15 people on, yes I counted to report here.

6 were without mask, out of which....
- 1 with full-blown cold and
- 2 obese ladies (high risk category).

Without any enforcement and punishment this whole mask thing seems like a publicity feel good stunt!

As a foreigner I feel like I have to tell other foreigners to follow the rules but with so many psychos around I just bite my tongue. It is like these people just don't care about society!

One week ago there was an obese Turkish lady on the bus, no mask and talking really loud on her phone. Her talking loud and no mask combination was really grinding me, I was tempted to politely ask her to shut it but chickened out.

Five minutes later the bus driver had enough, he stopped the bus and told her to shut up and put the mask on, he told her that it is a public bus and not her living room. She told him it was an important phone call. Turns out the driver was Turkish too, and she was chatting rubbish on the phone
They had back and forth in Turkish for a minute, and then she put the phone down and put her mask on. When she finally got off she was mumbling and grumbling.

When my turn came to get off, I thanked the Turkish bus driver for his great service and for being an excellent member of the society. He was very thankful for my backing and it made his day. Actually it made my day too
